First Look at the Ingenuity Precision Powder System

I think the IP system is designed to store powder calibration info as a preset, but nothing regarding the load. We havent seen any of that functionality demonstrated yet, so we dont know for certain.
Yes. I was pleasantly surprised that there is an app with a lot more functionality than the keypad and what appears to be a simple and user-friendly interface. We first saw a video of this just a couple of weeks ago.

I hope we are surprised again soon by a video of a guy turning it on and pouring in a powder different from that which was last used and then pulling down a menu selecting VARGET —> 308 —>178 grain ELD —> 43.5 and then the machine just starts spitting out saved 43.5 grain charges.

But we have not seen that functionality yet, so who knows?

For the ball powders, the supertricker really can’t be beat. But for the stick powders, there are sticking points lol.

I almost kept my supertricker to use for ball powders but, more than having money tied up in multiple machines, there is the issue of space on the bench and maintenance. They’re updating that thing every month and I don’t want to fire it up for varmint season and have to dick around with it updating it and trying to remember how to use it. Because features and simplicity/ease of use are conducting a protracted battle of attrition against each other in that machine
They all have their plusses and minuses. What I like about this is the simplicity of the design. Clearly it follows the rule of KISS.

That said I have only seen videos of others using it, but between that and the design concepts I'm pretty sure this is a winner for larger powders, but I don't know if any of those in his powder list are the small variable size ball powders similar to CFE223 or Staball 6.5. There's a bunch I use that are not on his page. We'll know soon enough. Edit: oops, I see he has a video showing CFE223. Excellent.

If it only stores powder profile that's ok. That's the elephant in the room anyhow, the rest is just fluff.

These are all software requests, easy enough to implement...

The hardware, however, has to be (and is expected to be) foolproof. Between the 30+ units my friends and I ordered, we are all going to be reporting the successes and shortcomings of the unit.

Are you getting some sort of early access to these units?

So this should be able to work with my current ANDFX120i? Currently using V4 Autotrickler. So on the preorder I just order complete unit and no scale needed?

Pre-ordered. Honest opinion on pricing though, I think IP is aiming honestly a little too high with his cost if I’m being honest. At its price point you’re asking for someone to come in and do it cheaper I think. It’s also not competitive in the AT V4 arena with its pricing. I expected it to be more expensive, but $790 to upgrade if you already have the disk trickler and $95 for a draft shield is asking a lot.

^ this is the Area 419 approach. “These gun nuts will pay anything for the latest and greatest bling, so let’s machine them a bullet tray with a built in cigar holder” https://www.area419.com/product/bullet-cigar-tray/

Except like the AMP and the zero press, this thing is actually leaps and bounds ahead of the competition.

So I think guys are going to fork it over as soon as they see there is an option that actually works without shims, Thor tips, and you don’t have to accept the ST nonsense 75% success rate. Or spill powder everywhere when you empty it out or accidentally slide out the plastic piece in the REAR of the gizmo, or have to clean up continuous errant kernels that the ST spills everywhere bc of that incorrigible rogue vibrator design mistake

Stuff like that can make the difference between pleasure and frustration during a reloading session, and guys have shown they’re willing to pay for that difference.

I just put in my preorder.

Doing a bit of quick math, even at this price point, the unit with scale and draft shield, will pay for itself in about 1500 loaded rounds for me, as it will cut my load time in half (Or more).

I get it. I load a lot and want things to work vs “TinKerInG” every loading session, AKA the SuperTrickler. However, the AT V4 works well and more so after the update. Priced closer to it, but being more expensive would put it in a better spot in the market. The V4 is not by any means perfect, but it works consistently unlike the ST. The SuperTrickler owners over sold its capability to the point of blatant lies.

The Ingenuity Precision is not meant to be "priced competitively". Paul didn't set out with the goal of just being competitive. His goal was to be the best.
It's meant to be better and more adaptable than anything else on the market. The V4 has so many plastic 3-D printed parts (I know my V3 does) where the IP system is metal. The IP system design allows it to be used separately from your phone and, without specificity, several different electronic scales.
When I first saw the IP Powder Meter at $360 I was skeptical. Then I saw how accurate and how quick it did the job. Now, it may be the best $360 I've spent on reloading equipment.
If you can't afford the IP powder system then fine, just say you can't afford it. Don't try to dissuade everyone from its true value.
Rant over!

Calm down, it’s not that serious man.
There is merit in this unit being priced competitively against the V4, but right now it’s priced approximately double a V4. I think at around $700-$800 it would be competitive with it and pull newer people over when they are in the market. However I don’t believe it will do that at the current price point. Not one part of my post was to “dissuade”.

I had two questions/ issues with this new measure/ trickler system.

1). Is this new system compatible with the older Sartorious 503 scale? A quick email to IP got the response that it should be and they are going to do a test to make sure it is compatible. Just an assumption on my part, I would think the software in the Sartorious line of scales is similar/ the same. So hopefully the new system will work with my still excellent older model 503 scale. The level of precision of the 503 vs the A&D is important to me.

2) speed of the reloading process is not an issue for me. I enjoy the time spent making precision rounds for competition and believe that it is a confidence builder. Knowing that any errant shot is not the failure of my rifle or ammo helps me recognize/ isolate the cause of a bad shot. Confidence in ur equipment is priceless.

It is always interesting to see when a new “ Mouse Trap” comes to market how there is a fever generated to be the first on your block to own one! If ur one of those types, more power to ya. The newer systems are marvels of CNC machining and 3D printing and certainly have the bling factor. It has a certain “Shooters Jewelry” attraction to it.

I can say that I have tested several different powder measuring systems ( V4, Prometheus) and the only item they offer over a top-of-line magnetic force scale and manual trickler is speed of operation. My shooting team mate loads for two shooters so speed is important to him. I will wait n see if this new system is 503 compatible and then weigh the “ Bling and Speed” factor vs cost. New gadgets are enticing.

Weird, preorder is gone from the IP page. I don't see it listed at all today. Can someone please post which three disks come with the new unit, I missed capturing that.

I think he's updating it to add the Sartorius shield but to answer your disk question, I can't guarantee it but he's said it will probably come with 7545, 508, 567 which are the same three the stand alone trickler unit comes with. Here's a chart https://ingenuityprecision.com/instructions/
