First attempt at neck turning - need input

I have ordered my first 6ppc and this is my first attempt at turning necks. My chamber will be .269 and I will be using the Barts Ultra 68 gr bullet. Lets see if i got this right. Finished round should be .267 minus the bullet .2435 divided by 2 so my cases are turned to .01175. I seated the bullet and its showing .267. My question though is regarding how far into the shoulder i should go. I tried for about a 32nd into it. I have attached a photo and was wondering if that looks about right?? Just slightly into the shoulder, my fingernail just slightly catches where i stopped turning.

That looks pretty close to what I do on mine. If anything I cut a little deeper into the shoulder. I turn for a .262 neck but I don't know if that matters regarding the shoulder cut.

Your necks look a little rough. Could be the picture though. If not, might want to go slower in and out while turning.

I think you need to go a little deeper on the shoulder too. But mine is also a 262 nk
This is what I shoot for when turning mine
If the angle of your cutter doesn't match the shoulder it's hard to get it just right

Overall I think you are on the right track. I didn't ask for input when I started neck turning and needless to say I sacrificed some good brass along the way. No matter what questions you have someone here has the answers because they have already been there and done that.
Good luck,
Ray

As stated by others, I go up a little further. I turn for 30 degree shoulders (6.5 Creedmoor, 6.5x47L, and soon 6x47L) and use a 21st Century tool bolted to my bench. The cutter matched to the shoulder makes it easy.

FWIW, and you may do this, I use a piece of 0000 steel wool to polish the turned surface as soon as I pull the case from the mandrel. I also turn mine using an electric screwdriver.

i have the same pumpkin works great and i have the same cut as the OP. when i checked the cutter i noted it appear to be 30 degree and not 20 that i need for the 308 win. Are cutters generic and can be pick up anywhere or is it turner specific?

Looks great! Read this on Optimizing the Shoulder Angle with the proper tool: http://bulletin.accurateshooter.com/?s=shoulder+angle+when+neck+turning&submit=Search

Another thing to think on. If you don't have the rifle yet. You really should wait until you have it. I know you want to get ahead and be ready when it comes.
I went that road waiting on my first ppc
I didn't turn the necks down far enough had a bunch of rounds loaded that wouldn't chamber. Had to pull them all re turn the necks down a little further then re load. Talk about beyond frustrated with myself
