Still needs some finish work... definitely a learning curve, lol
Here's the stock I'm thinking about checkering. Still working on fitting everything and deciding on a forearm cap.
Also had my youngest rifle builder supervising. Just carving, no sanding with this guy on the job.

Butch, I will tell you this...there is not going to be years of experience, lol. I'll stick to machine work...After you have many years experience you may try this type checkering.

Jim... It does sorta follow the V. The V has a slight radius to them. I am learning. Other side will be the same, but will make the forend a straight V![]()
When I was checkering, I would often make the "V" the layout lines for the entire pattern. Diamonds were parallel to the border of the angle. If yours is that way, sorry, I can't see for sure.

When I knew my pattern was going to come up parallel to the border, I wouldn't scribe the border and wait until the diamonds were in and then "finish" the border so I had one full diamond in between. The border was the last thing I cut in.
You are doing well.
Jim

But the diamonds are not pointed yet Butch 'O)
That's for sure, lolYou are right. Only found one person in the USA that would do it. You can't hide your mistakes on flat top checkering.
