First 6br

So I've shot a lot of different calibers over the past few years of shooting rifles for more than just hunting. Some big some small. Some accurate and some not so much. I bought a 6brx barrel off a member here last year and I enjoyed it's ease in finding a load. People around me were telling me that the straight br was even easier so I had to have one to see for myself since the BRX was so easy. I had a 1-8 brux barrel laying around for a target type gun and saw Lee Gardner had a little lull while waiting on parts for other guns. I called Lee up and he said he had a great reamer for the bullets I was looking to shoot. I dropped the parts off by him, along with a bunch of other stuff and 2 weeks later I had it all back. Took it out yesterday with some loads of varget and 105vld hunting bullets. To say this thing is easy to tune is a vast understatement! I loaded up 5 from 29.1-29.5 to sight in and 5 of each 29.6,29.8,30.0. All loaded .010" jammed. They all shot great and I am going to load a bit higher as I hit no pressure signs. Thanks Lee, this br is stupid easy!

Bottom left are 5 for a sighter group. Center is 29.6 top left is 29.8 top right is 30.0. 10-20 wind from my 4.

Absolutlely it was money well spent. I had many lengthy conversations with Lee prior to making the drive to drop work off with him. I have a very good sense about people and I talking with him, he is very passionate about what he does and really does care about what he does. I wouldn't have dropped all this off 5 1/2 hours away if I didn't trust him to do a good job :)

Welcome to the club. I have been shooting the BR family for over 25 years. I started with a 7mmBR in a XP-100. I have had 20, 22, 6mm, 7mm, and 30 BR. I now have two 6BR rifles, one 6BRX and Savage Striker in 6BR.
Good shooting

So I have a bit of a question base on my observations on this site. Most guys are finding that the 105 bergers are shooting best around 2850fps. Mine has topped out at 2800 with varget. It shoots pretty good but I was wondering if I go to RL15 and possibly find a little more speed and reach that 2850 zone; would it shoot even better?

I understand that every gun is different and there are no guarantees but, has anyone found that they get smaller groups at 2800 than the 2850 that seems to work for just about every gun out there?

I don't have data on Berger 105gr VLD Target bullets but, yes, the 105gr VLD Hunting bullets seem to produce the smallest groups for me at right around 2850fps. Interestingly, the Berger 105gr Hybrid bullets seem to work better at just below 2800fps, depending on the phase of the moon and other mysterious factors.

My BRX loves SMK 107's, I have shot 105's, but the 107's with the Meplat trimmed is the ticket for me.

I have 1000 hybrids I can try too. I'll have to take it out farther and test to see much of a difference. I'm getting an extreme spread of 10fps with the 30.0gr varget and the vldh so I don't expect much improvement but I'm always looking for better. The odd thing about this load is that at 100 it shows the most vertical but I'm sure I can tune that out with seating.

I don't have any smks but I'm not opposed to trying them.
