First 600 yard with 6BR

I have had my 6BR for a while--it was easy as pie to get a great load-it is a Savage with 8 twist Shilen barrel--target Accutrigger--Target Action --I Love the left port so recipe right off this site- 107 SMK, Peterson brass, 30g varget and a 450 primer. It shoots little clover leafs at 100 and about half the time lays them all in a .350 outside to outside group
So today we set up 600 yards in my friends pasture and had at it-- ES on 50 shots was 15 I managed one 4 1/2 inch and few 5 to 6 ish inch groups The wind and mirage was very hard to manage at first--whew! Ummm--that never got easier--it was hard!
So is that decent? I think my load is on point--the groups were roundish shaped though because of the wind sure not in the middle --- vertical was pretty decent I thought
For just starting out is that getting there? Is it even close? I feel like rifle and load are ok I Know it is me that will need some work
I have read all the stuff about mirage and wind on here but wow! When I was looking down range today with my old eyes--ummm I felt like I was guessing before some trigger pulls
Had Fun though! My 75 year old pal was hitting an occasional 4 in clay at 600 and smiling like Dolly Parton had just called him

I still remember my first 600yd match… I shot about 4.5” and was super happy… even though most of the other shooters were around 2”… But I talked to almost all of those guys, made a few changes, did a little more practice, especially watching not only the wind flags, but the grass, the trees and bushes down range.. I never beat those guys, but I got down to about 2.5” and at least made them nervous.

I would Be Thrilled to make that kind of improvement!!
I am planning to jump in on a 600 yd that is decent close to me--go take some lumps and learn

Just remember that the only guys that REALLY take lumps from "us" are the ones that talk a lot, but never have the guts to suck at something new.

We ALL were there. Some days, depending on what life has to offer, we are ALL there, still.
