Firing pin spring drag

Does the pin drag on the inner diameter of the spring when the spring is in the bolt body?

I like "embiggen"....might start using it. Here in 'The Forbidden Zone', the phrase "...come betoward" ie: bring something closer, is pretty common. If I start using 'embiggen', the locals will think I've gone and got me some schoolin'.... -Al

One of the odd tests I have done with ignition is to intentionally use the bolt body to guide the spring. I fit everything so spring did not touch the firing pin except at the collar of the firing pin. The spring snaked bad and if definitely is not dropping out of the bolt. The rifle is competitive enough we saw no reason to go back to the original design and its still shooting matches like that today. No fliers or any other signs of ignition relates issues were ever seen. The firing pin moves very little, and most of the spring hardly moves at all. Something has to guide the spring. And it will be consistent from shot to shot. Theres some real problem areas with springs, but the spring touching the bolt body doesnt worry me. Unless its unusual.

@AlNyhus , are you saying "..... come betoward" is used in SE SD?

You bet. You often hear it used with statements like: "Over the fence, the cow throw some hay."

A few counties West of me, it's a German/Russian mix from the Hutterite colonies. "I go'd away from here offen 'ta 'der for pinchers and burrs, 'ya know."

Translation: "I ran to the hardware store for nuts and bolts."

Fortunately(?) for me, I'm 3/4 German and 1/4 Norweigan....both dumb and stubborn.

Sure look like dingleberry’s

This is what I use:

Dingleberry hone: aka sheep turd/rabbit turd hone depending on the locale. :) -Al
First day of boot camp in 63 we had to throw our shorts in the trash. Our other clothes could be sent home. The DI said your mother does not need to wash the dingleberries in them for the next four years or something to that effect. First time I head that word since then.

My youngest daughter...about 5 at the time... spent an afternoon with my Mom. When I picked her up, my Mom said she'd noticed my daughter had used a lot of toilet paper when going to the bathroom. My Mom asked her if everything was alright and Lindsay replied: "Dad says to always wipe twice, just to be sure." :D

That's about as far away from a dragging firing pin spring as we can get!

This is when “ Klingons” take on a new meaning.

Love these sideways threads!

Back to the original topic. I have no way of knowing if a binding spring has much influence on locktime or accuracy, but I proved it to myself repeatedly that it can cause extremely hard bolt lift. Polishing the interior of a bolt body and exterior of the spring has reduced bolt lift effort by about 50% at times. Some 700's are really awful in this regard.
