Fireforming .243 AI &.25-06 AI

Nick

It's my opinion that the Bullseye/cow/tp method is more expensive in the long run. Seldom does it form a perfect shoulder so you end up having to do a final fire-form with a bullet.

Do it the way that Ackley hisself recommended. A stiff load and a bullet. Those fire-form loads are usually as accurate as any you will use and the velocity isn't that much less than you'll get from the Improved case.

The cheapest-best way is to just ignore that you're fireforming and do a load workup as you would with any other cartridge. I don't shoot a 25-06AI, but with the .243AI start about 45.5-46.0gr/W760 powder, CCI250 primer, and a 70gr bullet, then go up maybe .4gr at a time until all the holes touch.,My fireform load was over 48.0gr) Then go shooting. Velocity should be 3700-3800. If you have some other powder that works especially well for you in the standard version of either cartridge, use it. But don't waste your time with the extra step of "fireform" loads using fillers, it's not necessary.

Be very careful so you do not pierce your primers and get a blow back.

1st, be sure your unfired brass fits the chamber with a slight crush fit. If it doesn't, you'll have to decide how you want to take the slack out without stretching the web.

I always expand the neck up a caliber size and then adjust my resizing die, 1/8 turns at a time ) to size the case to fit the chamber exactly.

Or, you can do the "jam your bullet method" by loading the bullet with a lot of neck tension and jam the bullet in the lands about .15 thousands. Be careful about spiking pressures.

Then you can load your cases accordingly.

The 25-06 AI tends to give more challenges without using custom actions.

Good shooting.

Thanks guys,

If i was going to use the COW method how many grains of powder should i use in the .243.

And do you think that 12 grains of bullseye is a good starting load in the 25-06 AI
