Fired my new 6BR wow

I stopped at the range on my way home from work the other day to get a 100 yard zero on the scope I just mounted on my new rifle. There were targets up from a previous user, but with a 36X scope I could see there no hits that would be in my way. I fired two shots, then made the adjustment. I fired 5 shots for a group and it looked great through the scope. I fired 5 more shots on a different target just to see if the first group was a fluke. I couldn't believe what I was seeing, so I walked down range to pull the targets.
First group: .342-.243=.099
Second group: .265-.243=.022
I know this was only one time, but these are the best 2 groups I've ever shot!
I hope I can do this again, but I have the groups hanging in my office to remember.

Welcome to the world of ACCURATE rifles.

Now you don't have to lie about small groups anymore because you have the targets.

The only bad part is that there are guys who still won't believe you. Simply ask them if they'd like to go to the range with you and shoot some groups for money.

Tell us about your rig and your loads. Sounds like your rifle is a winner. Back to back groups that small take a great rifle AND a great shooter. You deserve a pat on the back! :thumb:

I've been shooting custom tactical rifles for a lot of years. My best group had been a .168" shot with a 300 mag that had every trick in the world done to the brass. These groups were fired with only case mouth chamfering done to the new Lapua brass.
The best thing about the tiny .022 group was I fired it on a target that had been shot by someone previously. There was only one hit on each of the 5 bulls on the target. The bull I shot on had one hit 2" out at 9 oclock. My 5 shot group in the X -ring is noticeably smaller than the one 30 caliber hole!
The other shooter that was at the range looked at these groups and asked me if I was going to shoot benchrest. He offered to buy me my choice of any barrel I wanted, and have it fit to my rifle in exchange for my barrel. I told him I would let him know. Sure.

The rifle is built on a SS Remington 700 action blueprinted and really tight. It has a 28" 1 in 8" twist #17 contour Krieger barrel that was fit and chambered by Penrod Precision, in a Shehane MBR stock with 3.5 pounds of lead in the butt. Factory trigger, set to about 1 pound. I mounted a Bausch & Lomb 36X Elite 4000 scope. The freebore is not really enough for the Sierra 107's. I had too much bullet in the case, but for some reason it shot spectactularly. I was using 30.1 grains of Varget, CCI BR4 primer, and the Sierra 107 smk. With a Sinclair comparator, the length came out to 2.695. That was jammed tight into the lands. I hadn't really taken much care in setting up the seating depth, because I only wanted to zero the gun, and get some once fired brass. I didn't take a chronograph with me that day, because I was only planning on geting the scope zeroed in. I used a Sinclair front rest, and a Carlson rear bag.
Even a blind pig finds an acorn once in a while.

The rig, as you've described it is very, very similar to what we've been advocating as a "Formula BR" one-design: Trued Rem 700,or clone) action, 27-28" 8-twist #17 contour barrel, no-turn neck, MBR-style stock, with optics under $500.00. You've just demonstrated what this configuration can do at 100 yards.

With those 107s it should perform well at 200, 300, 600 and beyond.

What's your all-up weight? If it's 16.5 lbs or less then your gun is pretty much a model for what we'd like to see become popular.

And how much do you have invested if I might ask? We'd like to see a rifle under $1500.00 before optics.

The rifle right now weighs 14 lbs 10 ounces. If I removed the shot in the stock I would be around 11 pounds 2 ounces. I am well under the 1500.00 mark. I don't have an exact figure, as I didn't buy everything at this time.

Bill, great shooting!!! I am having a custom 6BR built by Clay Spencer. I can't wait to get this rifle and finally have a 6BR for varminting. I went with a no-turn neck chamber and a .060 lead. Once again, great shooting!!

My very best friend in the world knows Clay personally and swears by his work. If Vern approves of Clays work, I know it will be fantastic.
Sorry guys, I made a mistake on the weight. The rifle weighs 16 lbs 2 ounces right now with the 3.5 pounds of shot in the butt.

After crunching a few numbers a person could have a killer 6mmBR for under $1,500.00 if he/she already had a SA 700. This would include all the norms,

Kreiger HV Barrel $275.00
Pillar Bedding $150.00
Blue Printing the Receiver $200.00
Chambering and Fitting the Barrel $200.00

=$1,375.00

With a Receiver purchase $1,774.99, not bad for a comp ready rifle w/o optics.

I finally got to take a couple pictures of the two groups from my new 6BR. The first 2 groups with the rifle, and I doubt I will ever do this again.

You will love your new rifle. Clay does great work. I have one of his barrels on my gun as well. He probably used the same reamer to chamber my gun. Lapua min spec with 60 thou lead. Have fun.

who made it and what the neck Diameter was?
