Fired brass for custom sizer die

Not sure how that helps with the resizing aspect...

Not necessarily, as neither of the example cartridges are catalog items with Lee. So I get to special order custom dies, that aren't what I want long term, so I can fireform some cases, so I can special order the custom dies I *actually* want...

Based on your buying and selling history and the fact your a gold member I have a Rcbs .338 Lapua imp. 40’
F/l die if you only partially neck size with it you should be able to get your cases ff to send to Whidden. I’ll have to locate it send me your info and I’ll send it to ya when your done send it back.
Can’t help ya on the other cartridge

All you want to do is just size bare minimum to grip a bullet so you don’t size your body.
If you shoot a fairly stout load with a heavily jammed bullet on your first firing it will mostly form to chamber anyway.

I appreciate that... but right now I'm more in the 'planning' stage of things anyway. I may be getting the ball rolling on the PRC this summer, but the 338LM Imp is a ways out.

Thank you, though!

Absolutely anytime.

So... if you were planning on getting started with a cartridge that is completely new to you - i.e. zero existing dies or tools - and want to end up with a custom sizing die made to fit your fired brass... what's the best way to get there?

Seems kind of silly to have to buy a 'factory' die to only neck size a few (3-5) cases to be fired a few times each (2-3x) to send off to a custom shop to make a dedicated F/L sizer - but I'm not really seeing any way around it.

I'm asking mainly because I've done almost *all* my shooting over the years with factory dies, with pretty fair results for the most part ;) but I've also done enough shooting over the years to realize that there have been a few occasions where a sizing die that matched the chamber better might have been nice.

I have no problem getting a set of factory dies and then having a custom sizer made. I see no need for a custom seater die though it's nice to have a custom seater stem sometimes.
