Firearm Facts, Data, Truths, Analogies

"Your intentions are good and well thought out for sure but I think you fail to realize what kind of mindset you are dealing with.
These people DO NOT CARE whatsoever what you or anyone else says NOR DO THEY CARE about reason, rationality, logic or statistics."

++++ and ,to top it off, the legislators who will vote on any proposed legislation will set their Oath of Office to uphold the Constitution aside to appease their voters and party in order to get re-elected.

THEY HAVE A SELF RIGHTEOUS AGENDA!! and NOTHING ELSE MATTERS!
I know it's hard to imagine that a human being could be of that kind of mindset.....but trust me....THEY ARE!
Nor do they care about TRUTH!
I've experienced it sadly first hand.
Hard to accept??? You bet. But to continue banging one's head against a stone wall is fruitless...and...they love to see you do it and frustrate yourself.
It's kind of like wrestling with a pig.....you get all dirty and muddy and they love it.
My respect to you sir though for your good intentions and hopes.

I know that there are indeed folks such as you describe. But believe me, there are TONS of people who can be turned from their ignorance. Many are simply on the fence without a strong opinion one way or the other; don't happen to own or care about guns, and haven't been taught the importance of the 2nd Amendment.

Some folks simply watch too much network news, and have been possessed by the demon of indoctrination.

One thing is for certain, if we can't sell our case to more folks right now and in the future, we are gonna lose. I'm no Pollyanna, but I do happen to love most people, and I want to see more of them on my side of the fence. jd

View attachment 1120279 This is an interesting chart. It’s from the year 2000 or 2001 but it puts things in perspective. One thing to note since 2000 drug abuse deaths have far exceeded gun deaths. It does crack me up when you see a 400 pound guy smoking with an open carry pistol for protection. Odds are not in his favor.

The third leading cause of death in the U.S. is health care errors -- 250,000 per year according to Johns Hopkins. That's 20 times the total number of homicides committed with firearms (including justifiable homicides). Remember that when the American Medical Association is lobbying for more gun laws -- maybe they should get their own house in order first.

notice how the discussion after a mass shooting, is to pass new restrictive fire arms laws, yet the same people have no solutions for the major cities whose murder rate exceeds all mass shootings annually!

I will always post this as ex - leo... LAWS only effect law abiding citizens...... There's already so many on the books that nothing should ever happen.... Murder was put in the Bible because , well it's been happening that long.. Even making murder double illegal won't change a thing... LAWS ONLY EFFECT LAW ABIDING CITIZENS....

At one time California led the way with "common sense gun control laws".

In the eighties it was "3 strikes you're out." Third felony= Life in prison.

Nineties "use a gun, go to jail". 10-20-life added to the original sentence when a firearm was used.

Sadly, they found it easier to control the guns than the felons and changed course.

Drunk drivers will still hit pedestrians, drive through coffee shops, hit people in bed, etc.
They'll still hit each other too, and drunk driving is already banned in every sense. But that hasn't taken the offense to zero occurrences, so let's ban sober driving as well..
Ya know,, AOC has already insisted that cars and planes be removed (which also removes drunk flying).
I forget her reasoning, but damn, what a genius!

Of course, it is impossible to totally eliminate heath care errors. Doctors are humans and "To err is human". But so is it impossible to eliminate mass shootings through more restrictive guns laws, or to eliminate mass killings by making every firearm in existence magically disappear.

Is it too pregnant to ask, rhetorically, who the heck is going to follow these dumb rules? If NY is any indication, about .04%. The abysmal compliance rate with SAFE Act is one indicator, but note, NO ONE is complaining in Albany. Why? Because ALL firearms transfers are background checked. AND THAT is what they are after.

There are thousands -- no, millions of folks who are willing to give up their and our gun rights for what they think is a good cause.

How do we gently and inoffensively inform them that they are being duped into the role of "useful idiots" for the left. jd

Is it really 250k in health care errors? How does this break down in terms of misdiagnosis, surgical errors, malpractice, etc? Seems like quite a lot but spread out over the population maybe not.

You can read the Johns Hopkins report for yourself, but the short answer is that the relative proportions of the different kinds of errors listed below are unknown because death certificates do not code them and hospitals do not release the information. Note also that the 250K/yr is for hospital inpatient deaths only -- outpatient, nursing home, etc. deaths due to medical error are omitted.

Here's an excerpt from the report (highlights are mine):

The annual list of the most common causes of death in the United States, compiled by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), informs public awareness and national research priorities each year. The list is created using death certificates filled out by physicians, funeral directors, medical examiners, and coroners. However, a major limitation of the death certificate is that it relies on assigning an International Classification of Disease (ICD) code to the cause of death. As a result, causes of death not associated with an ICD code, such as human and system factors, are not captured.

...

Medical error has been defined as an unintended act (either of omission or commission) or one that does not achieve its intended outcome, the failure of a planned action to be completed as intended (an error of execution), the use of a wrong plan to achieve an aim (an error of planning), or a deviation from the process of care that may or may not cause harm to the patient. Patient harm from medical error can occur at the individual or system level. The taxonomy of errors is expanding to better categorize preventable factors and events. We focus on preventable lethal events to highlight the scale of potential for improvement. The role of error can be complex. While many errors are non-consequential, an error can end the life of someone with a long life expectancy or accelerate an imminent death. The case in the box shows how error can contribute to death. Moving away from a requirement that only reasons for death with an ICD code can be used on death certificates could better inform healthcare research and awareness priorities.

Case history: role of medical error in patient death. A young woman recovered well after a successful transplant operation. However, she was readmitted for non-specific complaints that were evaluated with extensive tests, some of which were unnecessary, including a pericardiocentesis. She was discharged but came back to the hospital days later with intra-abdominal hemorrhage and cardiopulmonary arrest. An autopsy revealed that the needle inserted during the pericardiocentesis grazed the liver causing a pseudoaneurysm that resulted in subsequent rupture and death. The death certificate listed the cause of death as cardiovascular.

The left is asking for a broadened "COMMON SENSE" back ground ck.
Look at "F" on the 4473, which applies in some fashion to some of the mass shooter as of late. The catch 22 is court confined to a mental institution. The current system has no way of cking this
because it is not open for public scrutiny w/o a court order. If
you are a fruit cake and have never been adjudicated as such, your name would never appear under any circumstance to stop a legal firearm purchase.
The make believe perfect world that the left wants as far as cks and balances doesnt and cannot exist because one can never tell when that perfectly sane individual is going to go off the deep end. A mountain of additional paper work will never overcome a flawed system.
I sometime have to double ck myself. Today, I'm OK, but there's always tomorrow. LDS

NY has mandatory NICs on every sale...private or new or whateveer. PAIN IN THE ...well you know. and it creates a constant cooling effect. It is cool to buy up a gun that someone offhandedly wants to well, today, cause the mood struck and the money sounds good. Sucks when the deal goes south four days later when both of you can arrange to be at the gunshop for the NICS at the same time and suddenly he decides he isn't selling after all cause he thinks it is worth more or something.

Add to that, it creates exactly what these wanna be presidents are begging for...a means of registration. That way they CAN figure out you have it and demand you "sell" it "back" to them...as if they ever "owned" it in the first place.

I can tell you I know of only ONE deputy who registered his "assault rifle" when SAFE ACT passed. He had an FFL. Everyone else shrugged and moved on. And thats the COPS! I moved and sold mine once I was out of state. Cuomo only comes to mind when I cash my NYS retirement check in PA. :) Gillibrand started out saying she was pro- 2A. That went away in her first challenge election and now she is trying to out-Cuomo Andrew!
