PLEASE READ Fire Watch for Forum Boss

My family and I will remember you in our prayers. That doesn't help you much I know but it's all we have.
Stay safe brother!

I've fought fire all over that country, always darn happy to head back to the Rockies. The doggone traffic jams caused be the lookie-Lew's drove me nuts!
Stay safe my friend, remember when folks panic things get worse. Somebody always panics, get out early.

Good luck!

Why is CA suffering from a plague of fires? Natural or human caused? (please no 'wrath of God' answers)
It's the rainy season for SoCal. However, we are in a weak La Niña cycle and the moisture generally goes north during such events.
Add to that the infamous Santa Anna winds and you have the makings for really tough conditions.

During La Niña cycles, the NW get lots of rain, the NE gets lots of snow and the SW is dry most of the winter. This can set-up for a really busy western fire season.

We've always had fires. Now we have Internet and HD photos. In some cases, not this one, as we build farther into the hills, houses get more in the way of fires. Last year we had a lot of rain (in the winter) which causes more growth and increases fire danger the next year. The weather phenomena that causes the high fire danger is Santa Ana winds and they've been around forever. --Jerry

Just read about the Golden State Killer, aka The Original Night Stalker, who terrorized the Ventura area in the 70s-80s. Now this. What rotten luck. Hang in there.

Safe for now... that was close. Huge fast moving fire.

Looking East, the entire horizon was on fire. The blaze ran for 16+ miles...

Some got lucky... some not. I have a close friend whose house survived, but homes on either side burned to foundations...

Some whole neighborhoods lost...

Glad to hear you only added grey hairs and no other damage to you or your family and home. We have our share of wildfires here in Colorado but none near me (KNOCK WOOD!). Maybe you will get a houseboat for Christmas and sail into the bay next time?
