Fire Forming Discussion

The TP sounds like a lot more work then COW. I run COW threw my powder dispenser. I load up 50 at a time. Drop in 10 gr Red Dot then switch over to COW then push neck into bar of soap. I shoot it into a 4 inch piece of PVC filled with water. I put PVC pipe in a box to hold it at a angle
There a 100 ways to skin the cat. The object is to get it skinned. Ultimately, we are giving others 2 different ways to get the brass formed.

Its kinda funny they shoot that well...and we spend hours agonizing over shoulder setback
and neck tension...Dont get me wrong... I spend time working on my brass and neck tension.
Hell i even turn the necks.....just saying that I have shot amazing scores in competition Fireforming brass.

That's my excuse for minimal brass prep! But isn't it interesting that you hear this account quite often. Of course we can't let a spec get out of control but for a low life Ftr shooter, new poor fitting brass seems to shoot quite well.

Hate to derail, but can the load and jam method be used to go from 6mm br to dasher? Just had custom bbl chambered in dasher, am running Alpha brass now, but ordered 100 Lapua br brass as I like Lapua's life span, and accuracy.... Thanks for any info...rsbhunter

Does alpha not have a great lifespan?

Yes it can be. I got better results (ie most consistent case lengths) using the "false shoulder" method. Necked up with a 25 cal mandrel, then necked down with a regular 6BR die until I got a bolt close with some resistance.

I only have about 3 firings on the Alpha, I like the the consistency, and it has been consistent in resizing, shoulder bump, length, etc. I saw a comparison against Lapua that showed better numbers, so I'll give it a try. I don't think either one will disappoint... rsbhunter
