What kind of interest from 800 members is there for this 1000 yard range? 10? 200? 750?

The range I shoot at is world class. It was constructed by the Operating Engineer's Union Apprentice Program as a project to train their people. I am not sure if the club had to buy anything except the fuel. Sweet deal. 600 acres with 12 centerfire ranges (25 to 1,000 yards) and a bunch of shotgun ranges too.
Another consideration for long range shooting sports is marksmanship training. Very few people have experience shooting at 1000 yards and need to be qualified out to that range. I feel a good marksmanship class would be a money maker, even before the 1000 yard range is built. It would be very cool for the NRA to offer a 1000 yard marksmanship class or to qualify certified trainers.
I shoot at Sac Valley in N. CA.They don't need the NRA to do anything! I'm highly capable of that and I'd do it for free! Just pay my fuel fee down there and back from North Louisiana!
There are a number of publicly operated shooting ranges available. Ben Avery Shooting Range comes to mind immediately, and raises additional issues.Perhaps private ranges provides better control with membership and required training. Less likely to have some stranger show up with a new AK in a box and a bunch of FMJ.
On the other hand, the new guy may just need some training. Public owned and operated ranges would be an interesting concept, with range officers working for the state. That would be a real political topic.
Their about $4.000 per bench . That amount to another $ 40 to 60 thousands additional . LarryInstead of expensive pits, use electronic targets. No need for pits.
Electronic targets mean nothing, without the shooting range.3000, and maybe a better deal if you by multiples
Thanks, Rick! I will pass that on. We got some guys in the tactical game that are pushing hard for it and it might come to pass sooner than later. Good thing is that the executive committtee is coming around to approving it.They don't need the NRA to do anything! I'm highly capable of that and I'd do it for free! Sac Valley is private, but opens the 100 and 300 yard ranges to the public most days. 300 to 1k is member's only or sanctioned events with subsidiary clubs.Private, or public range?

For those of you with various questions: our club is private, just over 700 members, and own a full square mile of property, most of which we lease out to a farmer for sugar cane and other crops. The land beyond the 1000 yard impact berm is also agricultural land for about 5 or so miles. We do have neighbors that are 1/2 mile off to the side at about 57 degrees from the area we are considering placing the range. The majority of the expense will be for constructing a road from the gate to the firing line and then turning down range to the pit area. Needed even if using electronic targets.
Thank you for all of the ideas submitted. I will pass them on to the guys that are trying to get this project passed the dream stage.
