Finally it's here - Gen 2XR scope

My new scope from Premier reticles finally arrived last week. I originally ordered this scope in September. It's a Leupold 8.5-25x50 M1 with their new Gen 2XR reticle installed.

Premier explained that they were initially waiting on parts to arrive from Leupold. They were also facing a large backlog of orders for this reticle from LE/Military clients. Mine was in the queue. Of course, as many of you know, Dick Thomas passed away recently and that set them back further. Anyway, it finally arrived and looks to be ideally suited to my intended application of long range targets and varmints.

I already own two Leupold scopes with their original design Gen 2 Mil Dot reticle. They are great but at the higher end of the magnification range, the reticle gets to be a bit coarse and the obstruction of very small targets by the dots becomes problematic. I use the horizontal dots to judge wind hold-off. Since I was going up to a 25x scope this time, I was after a finer cross hair and less obtrusive dots on both axis.

Gen 2XR does just that. The cross hair and dots are now comparable, from the viewer's perspective) to the reticle on my 45x benchrest scope. Since the magnification is about half, the coverage by the reticle, from the target's perspective) is actually about twice that but it's still very fine. In addition, it also has windage hold dots set at several levels below the centreline, much like the Leupold Varmint Hunter reticle so now you can hold-off both windage and elevation with great precision.

I'm not sure what the future business plans of Premier might be - things are changing there for sure. From the look of their website, they aren't going to be doing much at all????

Hopefully this reticle will still be available for recreational shooters and they will get back on track for quick deliveries soon. Good luck to them - it looks like a great product.
