As an FFL in AL, I can tell you this ... He can buy the firearm from you (money sent directly to you). Then the firearm will have to be shipped to an FFL. If sent from an individual, it will require a copy of the individuals drivers license. If sent from an FFL, a copy of their license. This is needed to log the firearm into their A&D book.
Once the firearm is recieved, the purchaser will have to fill out a 4473 form & submit it for background check. The FFL should have these on hand. If not, it can be printed off from the ATF’s website. If the background check is passed, the firearm will be logged out to the purchaser. Nothing special has to be done.
EDIT: Not knowing CA laws, it may have to ship from an FFL? That I can not answer.
