Fedex and firearm theft

The sheriff department just called me and said they have recovered the rifle in the woods in a nearby county in Virginia. They are going to test and see if used in a crime and return to me if not. Unfortunately my pristine condition L46 is rusty.
Wow. Am I the only one paying attention here? That's rather amazing news, rusty or not. You might be able to clean it up better than you think.

Generic advice: Never, ever ship a rifle fully assembled, in a long skinny box! Take the stock off the barreled action, bubble wrap the two large pieces individually, and put them head-to-toe (muzzle to butt pad) alongside each other in a much shorter, wider box. One which does not scream "I'm a rifle! Steal me!"

The privatization of shipping is a direct and attack on the second amendment and the vendors that provide goods to gun owners. ... The privatization of all of these companies and their open war on the second amendment is not going to go away it's only going to get worse
I missed something. When were Fedex and UPS ever government entities (i.e. not private companies)?

If not FedEx or UPS, then who are we to use? I had to ship a rifle 6 months ago. Had to use an FFL, who charged me $40 transfer fee + shipping. So it was $75 cost to me to sell that rifle.

I ship through my local dealer now. They don’t charge me extra as I do a lot of work for them but it is still expensive. Just paid $85 to ship a Ruger No1 in a plastic case and box recently. About 2x what I used to pay a year ago.
The rifle was stolen last summer so don’t know how long it was left in the woods. Detective said barrel bore didn’t look bad.
How it looked before.

Funny how these companies, who use public resources paid by the taxpayers (roads and airports) claim to be private corporate persons. Amazing how they ride the line between private companies and utilities. One moment claiming to be one, and then operating as another.

People have completely forgotten the lessons of the Rockefeller monopolies and Standard Oil and their complete takeover of the railways. They essentially controlled the flow of not only oil, but all other goods.

Decent tap dancing there. Didn't answer my question, but entertaining.

You suggested "privatization" of Fedex (since they are the subject of this thread) is taking or has taken place. Privatization occurs when a government-owned business, operation, or property becomes owned by a private, non-government party. I ask again: when was Fedex ever a government-owned entity?

It wasn't. I used the wrong word.

It was never a branch of government, although I think I made my point that I was trying to make. These companies are basically regarded as utilities for the common good and use, and use common taxpayer funded resources. But in the end they are private companies, and now they are under common control as UPS and FedEx are actually majority owned by the same investment firms. Giving the illusion of competition where not exists.

I knew that, but perhaps made too much of it. We're not much in disagreement about the substance, really. I've just always felt Mark Twain made a good point:

The difference between the almost right word and the right word is really a large matter. ’tis the difference between the lightning bug and the lightning.

FedEx has a lot of "contract employees" and a lot of turn over due to the low amount of earnings. It seems we always have a different delivery person. We have had the same UPS delivery man for a number of years. A FedEx driver told me he was trying to get experience so he could get hire by UPS.

wow. sorry to hear about your loss.. i shipped a handgun fedex a year or so ago for warranty work and im no ffl. didnt have any problems but i have a revolver to ship for warranty work now and i wont use fedex.
heard horror stories about them from the LGS to. thanks for the heads up
I’ve stopped shipping my firearms and components due to many stories I’ve read of the same over the last year or two.

I downloaded and wrote Type 1 & 7 FFL and zip code filters into the ATF FFL spreadsheet to find a little-known, part-time local gunsmith who is exceedingly talented, conscientious and does work equivalent to or better than any CNC mill.

The govt-corporate anti-2A wokester conspirators are well on their way to self-destruction in this One Nation under God. Because they are forcing those of us who just want to be left alone, to actively participate in their demise so we can enjoy our Bill of Rights. The last 2 times such govt-corporate conspiracy for power and profit occurred on American soil the British Monarchy and the Southern Democrats suffered humiliating, in the first, and catastrophic defeat, in the 2nd instance.

Isn’t it fascinating how self-important, self-righteous men and women are seemingly incapable of learning from history?!?

Have you not been paying attention to the many years of news of govt-private partnerships and clandestine conspiracies such as exposed by the Tump Russia collusion hoax and the recent Twitter files expose’?!?

People just can't seem to wrap their heads around the facts that surround the "private partnership" model. Through privatization of the government, industry has been merged with the government. It's quite obvious. It's communism. Fascism. Whatever you want to call it.

Seems activism.
An employed creep who didn't want the gun,, just didn't want it delivered,, and threw it in the woods.
Then likely bragged about it for demon points at a coffee shop..

As far as the company; many today are run by recent education system products.
They're compromised to a level so deep that they gladly put their activism above profits (any/all profits). Sabotaging their employer or even their own personal businesses.

So a manager did it to Bud Lite, and you would think Bezos would prefer to prevent a similar Amazon demise.
Nope. Amazon is following Bud Lite with similar LGBQ commercials, while they're already on the edge of bankruptcy. Someone there who just can't help themselves..

Amazon Prime has gone woke, homo, transgender (whatever that means) and then some. I expect we will see "a man and his boy" love stories soon.

Amazing that THE anti 2nd Amendment party will embed Fed agents at school board meetings, election marches. Allow firearms, drugs, cartel controlled illegal immigration(human trafficking) across sovereign borders. Demand gun control and not seem to care about firearms theft occurring frequently from private freight companies. I guess not so surprising.

As suggested by someone else, the op should sue FedEx in small claims court. The complainant in SCC does not need a lawyer and the filing fees is usually very little. A corporation like FedEx does have to use a lawyer which is why they will usually settle quickly to avoid that expense. I would even suggest he sue for an even greater amount to include restoration of that beautiful rifle. He probably won't win that much but you never know! Worth a shot and it would be a public service to hold them accountable!

I would think firearm thefts are felonies, and that a court could order accounting for that.
The right answer from Fedex (in court), could NOT be that committing felonies resolves their fine print.
If you could show that Fedex has failed to act on this, it could easily grow to class action.

I bought a set of tires for my MG Midget last summer. They were shipped through FedEx.
I saw they were out for delivery. My garage is around the side of the house, and I didn't want the tires on the front porch, so I watched for the truck. Truck pulls up and I went to the road to get the tires. Driver brings two out, goes back in and comes out with one more. "Three ?"I ask him....."It's the FedEx way", he says.....The fourth was lost.
