Federal Trophy Copper Bullets

I’ve been considering trying some Federal Trophy Copper bullets for big game. I’ve never used copper bullets in a rifle before and was wondering if these Federal Trophy Copper bullets produced any more copper fouling than traditional jacketed bullets.

Would there be any advantage to using these bullets or should I just stick with my tried and true Nosler Partitions?

Go with what you know unless you are hunting in a lead free zone. There is no advantage to the solid copper over the Nosler partition.

Tried and True Nosler Partition's. Why change, unless you need lead free ? Think you really answered your own question.

I’ve used the partition bullets for decades and have never had one fail. They have been my “go to” elk bullet.

The reason I was considering looking into the copper bullets is because I had a shoulder replacement and the doc says to avoid shooting anything with measurable recoil. So, I’ve had to stop shooting my beloved .338 and .30 calibers and am switching to .243. I have a Tikka 3X Hunter on the way.

I’ve never used or even fired a .243 but I’m sure it will work fine for deer. I was wondering if the copper bullets might make it more effective for larger game in terms of penetration, etc. since they are supposed to offer nearly 100% weight retention.

Nosler makes 95 and 100 grain partitions in the 243. If your new rifle has less than a 10 twist barrel, you should be good to go on the 100 grain bullet. If it is a 10 twist or higher, shoot the 95 grain bullet. A deer will not know the difference. Both should produce good pass through shots on deer size game.

I ordered three different weight Partitions from Midway, 85, 95 and 100 grain. I'll test all to see which is most accurate in this new rifle. Tikka twist rate in .243 is 10".
I will try IMR 4350, Varget and H4831SC powders in my loads. There should be a winning combination somewhere in that selection.
