Federal ammo layoff

Why should there be any surprise? The Chief Executive isn't blaming everything on guns like the last one did! People have relaxed, no longer afraid of the Chief Executive violating their Second Amendment rights. There's even a bill in congress to relax some laws, like removing suppressors from the NFA. Get a grip, guys!

The ammo and brass companies have been committing slow motion suicide. By not adequately serving the market they have let Sellier&Bellot, Prvi Partizan and others get a foot hold.
In the mean time the morons use those small layoffs to do a couple of things. They find a way to get rid of slower and older workers and they use the layoffs as a signal that they are cutting costs to maintain profitability. It is largely a ruse to give the stock price a little jump especially if there are a lot of stock options maturing for the executives. They normally do those dirty deeds just before Thanksgiving to save paying for all 3 holidays......

This thread sounds like a certain Senator from Vermont that ran during the Dem. primary,, or,,, the Russians have hacked it! Another way to look at this, if you think the cost of Federal primers is too high or you don't like the price of brass, is to start up your own company that makes these things and see if you can make them to sell at a lower price .

Do you know for sure the companies are unionized? If they are that will hasten their demise since they will not be able to compete with the eastern Europeans low labor rates.

The problem with that theory is - these companies are strongly unionized, and the lay-off rule of all unions is "Last in, first out", so it is the young new guys are hitting the unemployment lines.

Do you remember the shortage of 205M primers many years ago? Many of the long time BR shooters replaced them with the 205. They couldn't tell the difference on paper, but were so used to the match primer, that's what they wanted to use:rolleyes:
Maybe there never was any difference.....marketing?

Since this was an ammo plant, I would suspect they weren't tooled up for making primers and a changeover in the new sales environment would not be justified. As far as labor, in my experience with automated plants, those costs are a relatively small percentage of total manufacturing costs. This plant is not unionized and Federal is part of Vista Outdoors, owners of Savage, Alliant, Weaver, CCI, Primos, Hoppe's, Redfield, American Eagle, Bushnell, Tasco, Simmons and RCBS to name a few.

My money says it was either lay-off employees or invest in tooling to make primers, etc and lower prices to encourage sales. Guess which side of management won that argument?

Redfield??? Leupold?

Id hazard a guess that various epa related restrictions and regulations have caused noticeable increases in the ammo field as well as most everywhere else.

Shooters overbought, caused shortages, keep buying and hoarding, and it finally came to an end. Bitched because they could not find the stuff, and now bitch because they can. If it's too high, don't buy the stuff. The law of supply and demand says if there is more product than there is market, the price should go down, not up. Barlow

I have not seen federal 22 shells in over 6 years where I live.
Where do you live?? Geez even in Kommiefornia we can get them. Prices are still too high, but most stores have them in the shelf in my area.

That economic philosophy USED to work but along came the liberals who ruined the party with the likes of that black bozo as President, who instilled uncertainty in many gunowners and helped create the run on ammo and components. Another buying habit (You snooze you lose) became the order of the day and bad habits are hard, if not impossible, to break. I'd be willing to bet many of us, even on this blog, now have a much higher supply of various components and even loaded ammo, than we had say 10 - 15 yrs ago. I suppose, you can call it a form of hoarding. But I'm also sure many of us have also said to ourselves, "I won't ever run short again and screw the hoarding label." Besides, do you REALLY think you can get folks to agree on anything anymore that would have a significant impact on pricing, supply and demand? Good luck with that! A favorite saying I have is simply, "There are more people out there today who have more money than brains!"
