Federal 209 and 209A Primers for reloading!

Shotgun Reloading question:
How much difference is there in Federal 209 and 209A Primers for reloading! Why did they change the chemical make up. What year was this done!
I know that this is a little off normal topic, but there are others that enjoy both!

Thanks

Steve M.

Steve,
Federal developed the 209A to replace their 209 in the early '90s. I don't know the reason, sorry.
The current 209A primer is significantly more energetic, so please use specific recipes developed for the Federal 209A. Do not substitute the 209A for any other primer recipe, including the discontinued Federal 209.
Please be safe and enjoy reloading shotshells. I certainly do.
Shoot well,
Paul

Thanks you for your reply my friend. Always enjoyed reloading Shot shells, customizing loads for weight of loads and velocities that are safely established in reloading manuals. Been reloading for the last 59 years!

Shoot well!
