Federal Primers

Jim- I mean there is a difference between the regular 210 and 215's ! Thats what I use in my 300WSM. No need for the MATCH PRIMERS. Just weigh them.

Sorry Joe, I meant do you find the 50 to 100 fps higher or lower then the match primers?

I have referred to that table more than once, it's a handy table to reference.

Yes, and thanks for the link.

Keep in mind too that this is 20 years old now. Manufacturing methods may have changed a little in that time, as well as newer primers (from Russia mostly) being introduced which deserve to be added.

I'm working up a methodology to get some comparative numbers off the 'flavors' of Murom Plant-produced small and large rifle primers. It may be a few weeks before I can post them here so stay tuned....

Thanks so much for the help. I think I will stick with the 210's. Most of my shooting until now has been 200 yds are less and I did not know if a primer could make a difference at 1,000 yds or not. Interesting discussion on Lapua brass. That is the brass I plan on using.

One side note, I never received an email notification letting me know that anyone had responded to this thread. It also happened to another thread but my first thread worked fine. Who would I send a message to in order to get this corrected?

Thanks again for all of the help.

Gil

I've compared both Federal GMM LR Primers and Tula LR primers in my .308 loads. Both primers sork up loads using the same charge weight and are accurate as heck (sub 1/2 MOA in my "Tactical" rifle using bipod and beanbag). The Tula primers yield far lower ES/SD numbers when chronographed with average speeds being very close. Not unusual to fire a load with the Tula primer and find it's recording almost the same speed, only a few tenths off the speed of the previous shot from the same charge weight. Regularly see ES and SD numbers in the single digits.

Best of all? The Tula's are less money than the Fed's. Almost half the price of the CCI BR-2's as well which aren't all that spectacular in my loads.
