FC 05 Headstamp

I have a bunch of (Federal) American Eagle .223 cases (AE223) with the "FC 05" headstamp. Are they manufactured to .223 specs or 5.56 specs? If they were marked "LC 05" I know they would be Lake City 5.56 spec cases. I guess I can try the old water volume trick but figured I'd ask first before going through the trouble. Thanx.

MY 2 CENTS WORTH
if federal was making for the mil it would have fc 05, most likely the nato cross .
if commercial probably 223 or 556 instead of the nato cross with or with out the 05

Hmm...it says 'FC' 'above' the primer and '05' 'below' the primer. No NATO cross. Nothin' else. The American Eagle box says .223. The plot thickens.

Not sure what you hope to gain checking water capacity. I shoot a lot of FC brass straight from the military, no Nato Cross. And exactly the same water capacity as LC. Some of my favorite brass as none is MG fired.

Lake City is either run by Federal, or is owned by Federal, it depends on what source the info comes from. Federal has over the years ran several government ammo producing facilities, another one was TW (Twin Cities) head stamp. I've used a lot of that over the years (still using it) in both 7.62 and 5.56 with no problems of any sort.

I have 556 nato 62gr w/steel penitrator, marked lc 13
Also have a can of 223 55gr spire point, marked lc 13.
556 cases did have a longer neck and crimped primers. Measured 1.760
223 brass did not. Measured 1.73-.75.
Trim to length, prep your pockets, fill em up, fire em!!!
Thats just my dollar 2 fifty, cuz 2cents aint worth sh%# these days.

To be precise, ATK has the contract, but Federal supplies much of the managerial and tech support for ATK (which used to own Federal). LC seems to be willing to sell its production time to other companies probably to keep employment up. Both Federal and Hornady (Frontier) use LCAAP production time.
