I was fortunate to draw a moose tag here in NB. Eastern moose aren't as large as those in the NW, but they are still big critters, and shots tend to inside 300m, and often inside 50m. Shooting a 22" 7 Saum. I have 160 AB, 160 FailSafe, 162 ELD-X, and AMax, as well as 175 ELD-X here on the shelf, and RL-22, RL-26, H4831 SC, H4350. I kinda think 160 AB and 4350 is probably the easy button, but I'd love to hear what works for you.

This is a third for the 175 noslers. You might look for some 175 Swift A-Frame which my buddy had good luck with in a 7rum in Africa.

I shot large bull Sable at 80 yds last March in the East Cape, South Africa. Grand Slam 160 grain passthru shoulder from a 280. Ran 25 yds, piled up dead.

A bull sable at 80yds is a good test of a bullet. I shot one with a 250 barnes x out of a .338 rum and he went about 25 yds, same as yours

I don't live or hunt in moose county. I do live and hunt in big bad Boss Hogg county. When I use my 7Mag, it's loaded with a 150 Barnes TTSX. The 150 might be a little light for moose, don't know. I have knocked the hell right out of BIG hogs with that load. I have intentionally tried to get that bullet not to exit and can't remember one not exiting. I have also loaded Partitions and had good luck with them also. Those are my 2 go to bullets when I need to go deep. I have also loaded Speer Grand Slams but in 30-06 and had good luck with them also. We have had some wild hog rodeos before, but not with that rifle or load.

Not many know it, a 175g Sierra btsp is about as tough as a 175g Partition.

I shot two bull elk with the old 140g Nosler ballistic tips, first generation....they flopped at the shot at 125-150 yards.

Know your anatomy, place your shot, all the bullets you have on hand are adequate.
I have had trouble with bullet jacket separation with sierra bts on quartering shots

The failsafes are about equal if not more tough than the partitions from what i have seen posted about them. Look at the cross section. They have a good reputation and will penetrate deep

175's are a different animal than the 140 and 150g. I don't believe we ever found any of the 160g Sierra's in deer on quartering shots.

The ones I had trouble with were 225s in .338. Perhaps the 250s would have preformed as your heavy 7mms have.

The 175's in the 7mm launched at 2900, penetrate like a 175g Partition...no kidding. Lots of difference between a 160g Sierra btsp and the 175g Sierra BTSP in how they penetrate. The 160g Sierra BTSP is a premiere Deer and hog bullet in my opinion.

My buddy and I tried failsafes years ago when they first came out. The design looked very good and you would expect deep penetration. We loaded some 180s in a 300mag for an elk hunt and the penetration was disappointing. Almost every bullet was recovered after failure to exit. It had a large mushroom with the pedals failing to turn back presenting too large a frontal area. In addition they weren't that accurate and were expensive. The design didn't last long on the market.

I believe you and accurate too
