Favorite Power Case Trimmer and Why?

Jon,
Long time no talk to!.... How ya been my old friend?
I as well have the arthritis so I totally understand but refuse to leave my Wilson! Somewhere I have a brand new minus a couple hundred pieces of brass ran through it a RCBS power case trimmer I never felt it gave repeatable precision cuts but I was pretty new to reloading at the time and was and still not a patient man so let me dig that out if I still even have it, I haven’t seen it in ten years or so but if I can get it to make square necks and repeatable lengths I’ll let you know it would be very arthritis pain tolerable buddy.

I use an RCBS and find it very consistent if you are consistent in how you load the shell and make sure that it cuts to the stop. Also before fully engaging the cutter, I release a little pressure off of the holder by pushing down the lever a tad allowing the pilot to fully align the shell with the cutter. This insures that the cases are loaded and aligned the same.

Doing these things I find the RCBS quick and accurate. I bought a Giraud because I wanted a machine that cut, chamfered and deburred in one pass.

Ccrider,
When using mine I found the same as you on case mouth to pilot alignment. When testing for Jon I’ll try your method as I said I was new to precision loading at the time and according to my measurements at the time they were not to my liking. Thank you for the tips.

@bozo699 you are most welcome. I have used my RCBS for low volume for years. It took a while to figure out how to get consistent results but I finally did. The only thing I left out is that I use a lubricated cue tip to keep the cutter clean and case and cutter lubed. Check with your calipers until you get it down, may have to rerun some cases.

Been using a Lyman Power Case Trimmer, that was purchased in the Early 60's, Has Trimmed Tens of thousands of cases, Still Going Strong

Jon,
I tried to upload a video but it wouldn’t let me but this seemed to work quite well and I got repeatable results I have no idea what they cost and it’s not super fast but it doesn’t hurt your hands

That is quite a set up. It looks like you can get it to behave. I like the idea of the lever to engage the case to the cutter. Keep us posted Wayne. Again it is great to see you back on , it was way to long.
