Favorite kinetic/impact bullet puller?

Haven't used one for many years, gonna need one, what's your favorite and why?

Seem to remember the 'olden days' ones used std RCBS shellholders, guess they don't do that anymore?

We're talking mid 80's was the last time I used one.

I think they all use the same design, pretty much; I think it comes down to color preference. The only time I use mine is on LRN bullets, where I can't grab the bullet with the Hornady cam die. I use a FA kinetic when I need one.

I've owned my green one (RCBS probably) since the 80s. Still going. Replaced the o-ring on the collet a couple of times.

I have a Frankford arsenal and a RCBS both work fine, but I have damaged the case rims using a shell holder, the collets give better support if the bullets are hard to pull.

I have the RCBS. Yes they still can use shell holders vs the collet. I never had a problem stripping the rim off of a case, and I pounded it on a block of wood real hard. I've heard of people breaking the ones with a metal shaft, where the RCBS is a one piece molded. However I haven't used mine since buying a press mounted bullet puller. It is a lot easier!!

I consider them like bullets and barrels, consumable. I've broke pretty much all of them. Or maybe I'm just too close to the missing link..

I've got an old green kinetic that I got in a box of reloading junk maybe 25 years ago. I don't use it much but it does come in handy for just a pull here and there. I use it if I need to pull a bullet back out a few thousanths when I'm setting up the seating die. More than about 2 bullet pulls and I will dig out the collet puller.

Collet pullers don't always work like they're supposed to.

Then you are doing something wrong. That is only a guess. I have used mine for over 3 years on cartridges ranging from 22-250 to 338 Mag and have never had a problem.

I have 4 of them, even the original RCBS one that I bought when I was 16 years old back in 73. Never busted a single one. I like the Lyman magnum because it has 4 tapered ramps at the bottom. The pullers without the ramp tend to deform the lead noses of spire point bullets.

RCBS for years without a problem Stuffed a tissue in it which stopped any damage to the the nose of the bullet. Bought an RCBS press mounted collet puller and haven't used the impact in over a year. Bought the collet type because I had a large number of bullets to pull from a purchase. Collet puller is easier and quicker.

Try as I might, on 45 ACP loaded with HiTek coated LRN, a collet is completely ineffective; it just won't grab. Thus, from time to time, though the collet is my go-to, the hammer does come into play.

Do not use a standard shellholder in a kinetic bullet puller. The reported cases of primer ignition that I have read about over the years were always with shellholders rather than the collet provided.
