Favorite All purpose.308 win bullet

125 game king or whatever Sierra calls it now. That will certainly put a hole in one side and turn the inside to mush. But I would still go with the 150 grain game king.

Here you go!

Check out: Terminal Ballistics Research- 308 Winchester---

Lots of good info on performance of various bullets in 308 loadings, in my humble opinion a pretty objective information source , more science less personal observations.

Myself I like Remington Core-Lokt in factory ammo, Hornady Interlokt for reloading.Lots of guys in my area who hunt a lot, and don't reload, don't read about shooting, ballistics , or bullet performance swear by blue box Federal Fusion ammo. They kill a bunch of animals.Mind you where I hunt mostly there are lots of bears including grizzlies so I hunt with a 300WinMag,180gr Nosler Partitions.

What's everyone's favorite all-round bullet for .308 win deer ,hogs ,coyotes ( not worried about fur) target shooting. Dad wants 't me to load something up for his new AR10 but is old school and only wants one bullet and load to deal with. Don't have be the best just good ....
Doubt hell shoot past 200yd if that can't rember the twist rate on the barrel
So recommendations?
I have been killing deer with 110 grain Vmax and 125 grain balistic tips for 40+ years in 308 and 30-06. I prefer the 130 grain Barnes ttsx but they are to expensive to waste on varmints. At ranges out to 300 yards these are all you will ever need and the recoil will be lighter. My AR10 style upper is 1:8 from Bear Creek Arsenal.

Ok he asked me to ask y'all this, if he wanted something that would go on dump all its energy and no exist wound what would y'all run. I told him it's gonna be some kinda varmint bullet
110 grain Vmax all day long, just make sure you put it behind the shoulder. If you hit a major bone it will come apart right there. Good for head and neck shots to.

Well, you might try the Barnes or the Hornady CX monolithic copper bullets in 110 gr.
Below is data from Hodgdon’s site for the Barnes, and the CX will likely mirror the performance. Accuracy would need to be established for sure.

I think the CX is gilding metal, Barnes are solid copper and it is softer. Solid copper bullets will not play well with gilding metal fouling. Barnes recommends cleaning all gilding metal out of your barrel before shooting their bullets for best results.

Below is the information available comparing the Barnes and Hornady, and I learned something in the process. I was unaware of the differences in composition between the two, but it appears the Barnes is actually the harder bullet. That said, I have used both on Whitetail Deer, and have yet to recover either from my animals. While that would be cool to add to my collection of bullets found while field dressing, I’m content that both of them have done the job I paid them to do.

Everything but hogs are thin skinned game but for them I wouldn't go under a 130gr game projectile.
A near max load of Varget for near 3000fps and the cheap Hornady #3020 should serve Pops needs.

My favourite short range hunting load is 130g Hornady spire point loaded with a warm amount of Benchmark. Works well in a 22 in BSA Majestic. Around 3000fps.

That is incorrect, adding 5% zinc to copper makes it gilding metal which is harder than pure copper.

Since the CX bullets are gilding metal they may shoot fine after other lead core bullets. The Barnes won't. Ron Spomer has done testing of this with Barnes bullets and found it to be true. Check out his YouTube channel and web site.

So here is what I’ve found with one hole wonders. I hunt in PA. Very wooded everywhere I go. My brother and I have both used Berger bullets for hunting. I’ve sworn them off because there is no blood trail. If you hit one solid, they still do the 20-30yd death run most times. Both of us almost lost a deer because they took off into thick brush. No blood to follow. I’m a firm believer in pass through for woods hunting regardless of game being hunted.

Back to bullets, I forgot a bullet that tore things up inside and still passed through. The Nosler 168 Ballistic Tip. Great shooting bullet and does well on deer. The 165 Nosler would be another great option!

It really depends on barrel twist, I hunt with Berger 180 elite hunter 1-10 twist with great results.
Barrel twist really determines what bullet weight you shoot.

One reason I like Sierra bullets, (gilding metal)
My Vote goes for 155 or 175 TMK's, depending on your chamber and twist
buy a 500 pack and good to go for a long time
