I have been killing deer with 110 grain Vmax and 125 grain balistic tips for 40+ years in 308 and 30-06. I prefer the 130 grain Barnes ttsx but they are to expensive to waste on varmints. At ranges out to 300 yards these are all you will ever need and the recoil will be lighter. My AR10 style upper is 1:8 from Bear Creek Arsenal. What's everyone's favorite all-round bullet for .308 win deer ,hogs ,coyotes ( not worried about fur) target shooting. Dad wants 't me to load something up for his new AR10 but is old school and only wants one bullet and load to deal with. Don't have be the best just good ....
Doubt hell shoot past 200yd if that can't rember the twist rate on the barrel
So recommendations?
110 grain Vmax all day long, just make sure you put it behind the shoulder. If you hit a major bone it will come apart right there. Good for head and neck shots to.Ok he asked me to ask y'all this, if he wanted something that would go on dump all its energy and no exist wound what would y'all run. I told him it's gonna be some kinda varmint bullet
I think the CX is gilding metal, Barnes are solid copper and it is softer. Solid copper bullets will not play well with gilding metal fouling. Barnes recommends cleaning all gilding metal out of your barrel before shooting their bullets for best results.Well, you might try the Barnes or the Hornady CX monolithic copper bullets in 110 gr.
Below is data from Hodgdon’s site for the Barnes, and the CX will likely mirror the performance. Accuracy would need to be established for sure.

Below is the information available comparing the Barnes and Hornady, and I learned something in the process. I was unaware of the differences in composition between the two, but it appears the Barnes is actually the harder bullet. That said, I have used both on Whitetail Deer, and have yet to recover either from my animals. While that would be cool to add to my collection of bullets found while field dressing, I’m content that both of them have done the job I paid them to do.I think the CX is gilding metal, Barnes are solid copper and it is softer. Everything but hogs are thin skinned game but for them I wouldn't go under a 130gr game projectile. What's everyone's favorite all-round bullet for .308 win deer ,hogs ,coyotes ( not worried about fur) target shooting. That is incorrect, adding 5% zinc to copper makes it gilding metal which is harder than pure copper.Below is the information available comparing the Barnes and Hornady, and I learned something in the process. It really depends on barrel twist, I hunt with Berger 180 elite hunter 1-10 twist with great results. What's everyone's favorite all-round bullet for .308 win deer ,hogs ,coyotes ( not worried about fur) target shooting. One reason I like Sierra bullets, (gilding metal)That is incorrect, adding 5% zinc to copper makes it gilding metal which is harder than pure copper.
Since the CX bullets are gilding metal they may shoot fine after other lead core bullets. The Barnes won't. Ron Spomer has done testing of this with Barnes bullets and found it to be true. Check out his YouTube channel and web site.
