.310 bullet in a .308 win?

Has anyone every tried a .310 diameter bullet in a 308 win? Ive been looking for a cost effective, general purpose hunting bullet for my AR10, and I found the hornady 123gr Zmax bullet. this would make a great bullet for the gun but it is .310 dia. Will this cause a problem in my .308 bore?

I believe you need a different device to measure. You can't measure with a caliper. I use a friction thimble four digit Mitutoyo. Matt

Eddie would you care to expand on that please?
Dkhunt, the bullet I am speaking of are marked .310 on the box, instead of .308.

Those bullets were originally for the 7.62x39mm Russian cartridge. Sell them and get the right bullet for that ar-10 Try the sierra 125 matchkings or something on that line.

+ 1 to above . Your neck will be to large if used , pressures will spike . It will not be wise or safe .

I know they are used by some in 300 blackout. Some run them through a 308 sizing die and others just load them as is. Not saying that makes it wise or safe, just saying it's been done on that platform.

That's kind of what I thought, too big for the bore. I was hoping I could use them safely. The price of these bullets was really attractive, good thing I hadn't bought any yet.

I thought he was measuring the bullets. Never bought any .310 bullets. Never knew they made them but I shoot mostly Bergers. Matt

The 168zmax isn't much more expensive than the 123. Not sure if that's too long to load in an ar10 mag or not though.

I have used old 310 dia bullets, russian surplus, for loading in a 308 bore 7.62x39. The bullets were 308 up to the very base of the bullet and then only the last 20 thou or so was actually .310 in diameter. Was very accurate and fun to shoot.
