Only thing that has kept me from moving past a 243 in the 6mm department is almost everything worth shooting at least in my eye's requires fireforming. If someone made dasher brass I would chamber my shilen 6mm blank instead of trying to trade it off for a 6.5 blank to do another swede.

I vote for the Dasher or BRDX.

The only reason I havnt switched from the ole plain 6BR is that is sooooo easy to load and shoot. Its the one cartridge that I dont have to jack around with. Just load and shoot... and shoot it does. Now if there was Dasher brass available... Hmmm? Of course I have a bunch of BR brass already on hand.

2 - The Dasher (other than fire forming) is a VERY forgiving round, can push the 105 hybrid to a perfect velocity, and has the BR records to back it up.

The Dasher is very easy to fire form brass.

I have a 6.0x47L, 6br, 6brx, & and 6 dasher. My favorite is the BRX, but fireforming brass and the short neck led me to recommend the Dasher. Both are very accurate.

I like my 6.0x47L, but I like my 6.5x47L a lot more, JMO

All you have listed are fine cartridges. I have built rifles on all that you listed. Yes, I used my Grizzly tool room lathe to do the barrel work.

There are advantages to some and disadvantages of others.

No one will argue these facts. The Lapua 6mmBR brass is the go brass for the BR BRX and Dasher. Small Magnum primers are the go primers on these cartridges. All will shoot 105-108 grain bullets better than most shooters can hold. Dies are available for both cartridges, and Varget Powder is the go to powder. 30.5 grains to fireform with bullets jammed .035" will shoot accurate enough to shoot in matches to 600 yards. You can start out with 200 virgins and reload them 16-20 times. Fire formed loads will shoot 3020-3080 fps with 32.2 -34.00 grains of Varget. Good barrel life 3000-3600 rounds of barrel life

The 6mmXC also is a great round, Tubb and others have proved that . Brass, is made by Hornady, This cartridge has the support of Dennis at Creedoor Sports. Shooting cost may be a little more due to the fact it uses just a little more powder. Barrel life is less because of the greater powder burn. This round is Maybe a little less accurate than the BR bases cartridges.

The only disadvantage I see is using the Dasher from a magazine, the 40 degree shoulder requires better case alignment and cone bolts rifles do better.

If you were building a new 6mm rig for mid range shooting, and good brass was readily available (without having to fireform to shape the brass), what caliber would you build.

Here are some options:

6BR
6BRX
6Dasher
6XC

Let's make the assumption that factory brass for all of the above was readily available.

I am sure there will be others, but the above are just examples. If you care to, please explain your reasoning.

BRX would be my choice. Having used it in four bbls, it has some key advantages.

As accurate as anything out there, low reloading costs, and can use standard 6mm BR dies because of the 30 degree shoulder.

The accuracy of the BRX and Dasher are the same, just depends on who is pulling the trigger.

30 degree shoulders will feed better than 40 if that is a requirement.

Shiraz, if you want to get brass made for a dasher do it, sounds like a good idea. Fire forming 6brx is no big deal. Just take them out to the Dakota's and bang prairie pups for a couple days. Great way to fire form brass. Personally, I think the BRX is hard to beat for accuracy.

Sent you a PM. I have a ton that happens to have two firings on it. Some with 3.

As far as favor 6MM, if you are starting from scratch I would go BRX. But I do love my Dasher and I don't think there's a compelling reason to switch to BRX if you are already setup for the Dasher.

I love my 6br but if I had to change . It would be BRX due to economical reasons dies brass .

The 6-6.5x47 has more case capacity, and a 30* shoulder vs. 40* for the Dasher.
