Favorite 6MM Build

My favorite thing about the dasher, you don't have to trim it. My 6br needs trimming every time and assume the brx would as well. That alone is worth switching to a dasher for me. The long neck dasher brass is a good idea, but what will it do? We all already have freebores that work well with the bullets we shoot. I actually think it would be easier to fire form a case than trim .100'' off every one.

If you shoot the BRX and the Dasher In 1000 yard benchrest you would see the difference. From what I have seen everybody that tried the BRX went back to the Dasher. The Brx shot good but not as good as the Dasher in conditions. Matt

Yes, we hear from the Dasher adherents all the time (mostly LR bench guys) that the Dasher is "best". They will scream that it holds most of the LR bench records (which I do not dispute).

However, correlation is not causation.

Yes the Dasher is very successful in LR bench, but is this because it's inherently better, or because the Dasher is what all the top LR bench guys shoot? I do not believe that there is any hard evidence to support the superiority of one of the cartridges over another. Both will propel the same bullets in the the same speed ranges with outstanding accuracy.

Look at the mid-range F-Class records. You'll see a whole lotta 6 BRX there.

To wit, I shoot mid-range F-Class against a fellow forum member (who's name I won't drag into this), who shoots a Dasher who consistently beats me by 3-4 points a tournament. He beats me because he makes fewer mistakes than I do, not because the Dasher is better than the BRX. Simpy put, he's better than I am.

Sorry for the hijack. The zealotry gets on my nerves. Again, I'd be happy with good factory BRX or Dasher brass.

Fire forming isn't a big deal. If your varmint hunting fire form at varmints. Shoot a few at the range to sight in and see the group size.

The 6SLR appeals to me for one I like a 243 win and this seems like a improved .243 with longer barrel life..Brass wouldn't be hard to produce and it virtually is a Dasher xl of sorts...I haven't pulled the trigger on a 6slr build because there just haven't been much feedback yet...Anybody able to report on barrel life?

Fire forming is a big deal for F-Class shooters…

In a typical tournament, we'll shoot 160rds for record plus another 16 for sighters. Add in fouling shots and we're talking around 190rds or so for a 2 day tournament. If traveling for the tournament, a guy will likely round up and bring 200 loaded rounds (needing 200 pieces of fireformed brass).

Fireforming 200+ pieces of brass is a significant undertaking, and represents a significant percentage of expected barrel life (yes one can use a fireforming barrel).

I have been talking to Jimmy Dasher (aka Falcon Pilot) about building a dasher. Good factory brass would be really nice and might push me past talking into building.

Ken,

Sorry I missed your call. I give you a shout tomorrow. I'm chambering up another Dasher barrel for my new gun right now. It's kind of an odd ball build, but covers multi disciplines. I've had in works for a while..even before Erik S. did so well at Berger Nationals with one..hint ;D

Dasher for me please! I am shooting my TAC 40 wildcat and a shoulder bump would be very easy for me.

The best all around 6mm today is the 243 Winchester.

Just get Lapua brass and rock on.

There is nothing wrong with a .243 Win for certain hunting applications. But for mid-range target accuracy, the .243 Win can't touch a 6BR. No comparison.

Ahhhhh Hmmmm OK? I dont think the good Mr Sharaz is going to ask Lapua or Norma to make a special Run of 243 Winchester brass.. which is what the post is about. He was asking ( between the lines) what case would shooters want that is NOT produced in the 6mm caliber. Like the Dasher, BRX, CM, SLR.
He tried to disguies it as a normal question but we are on to him... H he he

Why not make 6x47L brass? That would be good. But I would love to see Dasher brass made. I am trying to find a reason to get a barrel done in it. But my 6x47L performs well.

What would it take for a company like Lapua to be interested in making brass? How much brass would they have to sell for it to be worth while? It's a valid question because companies like Lapua or Shiraz would want that to be profitable, I would think ;) has anyone had that conversation with Lapua?

I shoot both the 6br and the 6brx in midrange and both shoot great, provided I do my part ;D

I guess the brx would be a welcome product to market for me ;) less work and more time on the range gets my vote.

Allan.

Too bad I am just getting ready to start my 6MM BR build right now. I would hold off on buying a reamer, gauges dies and brass, if I just knew what to buy or when it would be available HA..HA... :-\

(This sounds great, I hope it comes to be, ...soon)

Jerry,

You can always move forward with the 6mmbr and when you need to set back the barrel just shove a dasher reamer in instead..... 8)

Phil, thats probably what will happen.

I was just hoping to save the price of another reamer, which will be needed just because I need a reamer for the 6MM BR build. If it was just a setback that would be fine too. Bring on the 6MM GRrrr...

Count me in for Dasher brass with a full 1.555" case length with more neck.

Given that the current Lapua shrinks a bit while FFing, I've been thinking about having Kiff shorten my Dasher reamer's chamber length to 1.545" ** to account for this and reduce the chance of a carbon ring.
Full-length factory Dasher cases would be all kinds of awesome.

** using 1.555" chambered barrels for fire forming.

Kill shot, I would advise you not to have your Dasher reamer cut back to to 1.545. I currently have a Kreiger barrel chambered to those dimensions and it produces the shortest brass of all my reamers. My longest brass forms off a 1.565 chamber and I believe this actually helps in forming longer necks. Don't know about others, but for me the shorter the reamer the shorter the formed brass.
Count me in for the long neck Dasher.

For 200 yd. target shooting slow fire from 3 or 4 positions I found the 30-06 that everyone else used to kick harder than I wanted.

I ordered a new M70 Varmint (26" heavy bbl.) in 1957 chambered for the .243 and I did very well with it using reduced loads.

Thus I ordered a new 40X in 6mm Rem. Intl. which is a 250 Sav. with it's shoulder pushed back and a long neck. I loaded the 75 gr Sierra over a light load of 3031. That was a winning combination.

What it took to win was superior aiming and not rifle accuracy.

I only mention it as historical fact. Today I might choose the easiest to get small 6mm which may be the 6mmBR?

Here is my 40X with a test scope on it. Those matches are shot with irons.
