a good friend and pd murder uses the 40gr v-max and 1680 or lil gun. with very good results.

I stay with 50's

Nosler BTs work for me. Best accuracy and just the right penetration to turn groundhog guts into Jello. Really want to run 50s out of my LVSF for coyotes, but haven't found one yet that doesn't spread groups horizontally. So, for now am running the orange tips in both the Remington and my Cooper.

I use 40 V-Max for PD's because of economy, but best accuracy with Nosler BT. My load is a fairly warm load of 1680 pushing the 40 @ 3600-3650.
