What's your favorite load for the 30/06 = 03 A3?

Springfield new 2 grove tube.

Link, with older rifles like the '03 and '03A3, I believe it's best to stay very conservative on loads. The M72 National Match ammo was typically loaded with 46 to 47 grains of 4895 and the 173 FMJ. The same charge with a 168 or a 155 will be an accurate, moderate recoil load that won't create concerns with the rifle.

With 150 gr. jacketed, I like the Sierra #2130), loaded with 30 to 35 grs. of IMR 4198,, maximums approximate 30-30 ballistics). My 'standard' short-range load for 03-A3 and 03-A4s at 100 & 200 yd. Very accurate, low recoil for rapid-fire in the DCM/CMP matches. There are also loads listed using 123 FMJ or JSP bullets that approximate 7.62 x 39 ballistics. What more do you need to punch a hole in a piece of paper at 1 & 200 yds? Excellent article by C.E.Harris

I happened to try IMR 4895 w 47.5 gr w 168 SMKs

They seemed to work OK at 400 yds [no pressure signs]

We shoot 400 off the bench 300 prone 200 sitting and 100 standing.

Maybe those loads would be light on a windy day at distance/

Link: Yes, you are correct: the load combos I related are intended for 'short-range', at which they 'shine'. I've never used them beyond 200 yd. Trajectory probably similar to a mortar round.
