30 06 A3 ?

Hi I just acquired a 30 06 A3 with a like new 2 grove tube.

It's been sporterised w peep sites.

I'm wondering what some of your favorite LOW RECOIL loads would be. [ guess i'm a gettin old ]

I would like to shoot out to 400 yds.

OK if nobody has a favorite light load.

How about / what weight bullet do the 2 groves like?

Where could I start?

P.S I put a limb saver pad on to help with recoil.

It's a bitch to get the things that come with age = bursitis,
arthritis etc.

I use a nice light load for my kids to shoot mine.
168 sierra mk 44.4 imr 4064 .010 off lands.
I have heard of people shooting cast loads out of these with loads so light it feels like shooting a .22

16.0g 2400 and a gas checked Lee 180 cast bullet makes my 03a3 a large pop gun but accurate a 100yds. Only extra step in loading is to bell the case mouth. If you don't cast PM me and maybe I could mail you a couple of bullets to try. I lube with Lee Alox and leading is a nonissue,that was my biggest fear shooting cast bullets in a battle rifle).

According to an old NRA Cast Bullet publication 2 grouve Springfield barrels worked best with Cast Bullets.

For short range shooting I've used 10 grains of Unique under a 110 or 125 Grain Jacketed bullet.
Keep the cases segregated for light loads and watch out for
double charges.

I used a 1/4' wooded dowel with a tape mark to check every charged case before seating the bullet.
