Fastest known bullet speed?

Many years ago, maybe 20 or so, my brother loaded what appears to be maybe a 50 or 55 V-max with a sabot into a 30-378 Weatherby Magnum. It would've been interesting to see what that chony'd at.

placed a 3-06 , 308 and a 22-250 beside it for a comparison.

I’ve shot 20 grain bullets from a 17 Rem at 4500fps.

They were not accurate and it was too hot of load. However on the low 4400 range it shot well. A couple coyotes died very fast.

Didn't someone back some 30-40 years ago try loading a 22 in a 50 BMG brass or something of that size? Estimated well over 5000 fps but couldn't prove it as bullets kept coming apart.

particle accelerator i think...texas has a big one.

A friend of mine is a scientist for NASA. He was telling me they have a gun that shoots particles to simulate objects striking the space station or other objects in space. Shoots about 4.3 miles per second. Not a rifle like we're use to but still pretty amazing

60gr Nosler Zipedo Solid Base in my old 22-378Wby AI clocked over 5400fps. Gene Solyntjes wrote an article about our load testing for Precision Shooting Magazine in the early 2000's.

and then there are the electric rail guns
4500 to 5600 MPH..YES MILES PER HOUR
8000 plus FPS

futuretech......

The military had NOTHING really cool in the way of shooting tech, just lots of dollars and plans.

It frightens me that people actually think this stuff is real! For instance, I've argued endlessly with folks, NAVAL folks about The Good Ship Ponce.... https://www.google.com/search?q=nav...67dTbAhWhHjQIHb-SAlgQsAQIkQE&biw=1536&bih=734 ..... basically we spent BILLIONS of taxpayer dollars to make a nuke-pumped laser that in the end COULD START A WOODEN BOAT ON FIRE AT 75 YDS....... if it set still.

And managed to knock a couple drones out of the sky when the operator hovered them long enough.

Those billions bought us up to the stone age by mimicking the effectiveness of native's wooden fire arrows and then brought us up into the 19th Century when they got the drone to drop out of the sky, that was easily as powerful as a 12ga shotgun.

Ohhhh, but all of this is moot because to "defeat" the Mighty Ponce all's ya' got's ta' do is paint your boat white. Or silver. Then it cain't start it on fire...... Or, worst case shiny polished AL or SS and then the laser just bounces off entirely, can't even make it WARM!

I generally find a direct correlation between them's who believe "the military has stuff we can't imagine" and them's who say "we never went to the moon" .......and in the next breath "well to a scientist, bumblebees can't fly"

No, is actually a gun that uses gunpowder to fire a piston that compresses a gas , nitrogen I believe he said, until a burst panel ruptures. The high pressure gas fires a acrylic sabot progectile holding the particles. A piece of 4-5" steel with a hole drilled in it catch's the sabot.

Wiki says it can go up to 8.5 km/s. Thats 28k fps!
