Farley rest

I believe Alan has tuned plenty of NEOs also. His work is good.
Don't get me wrong, SEB set the standard and continues to raise the bar.

Alan NEO mods are not all that Mulligan. His practice of removing the teflon strips out of X/Y plate is a bad more. It pushes the rider plate along with plate the bag holder fastens to into the back of body. It also pushes X/Y plate into the rider plate, if your questioning me that a thousands and a half feeler gauge and it will not fit between the plates. There is no pressure on the parts it just holding the parts. It also put enough pressure on the front bearing that it wears into the joystick rod. If you want more info feel free to call me.

You Farley people need to put UHMW or Teflon tape on the front sliding plate. It rides against the front housing. I would recommend bicycle synthetic racing wheel bearing grease on the tape, vertical dowel pins, and the plate that the tension screws ride on. Joel Kendrick and I did a lot of Farley mods in the olden days. I did a few plugging the old tension screw threads and making them a fine thread for easier adjustment. Yes, you need to shit can Farley's ball plunger tension adjusters and replace them with something like I've been selling for 17yrs.

Butch,
how often should a fella disassemble the rest and clean it and reapply grease?

I forgot to add and maybe Mr Johnson does this. Drill a vertical hole vertically on each side of the bearing in the front sliding plate. Make a couple delrin buttons and slide them in the hole and put a coil spring on top of the button and is sandwiched under the bag top. This will allow you to use very little tension on your tension screws. If you do this your Farley will be as smooth as anything out there.

Do you still do these mods on Farleys?

Good Morning Mr Lambert,
Just use quality bearings.

For those of you that have front plates damaged or the anodizing has worn off, I have plates that will be going off to be anodized in a couple of weeks.

As for servicing; shooters are very attentive to cleaning their rifle. Have all their specific oils for each part. The rest isn’t sealed, what ever you use on your front bag (baby powder) ends up mixed with the lube, along the wind blown particles. After a period all of the outside contamination mixes with the oils or greases. If even more so guys that shoot prone. In this case less is more. It takes 3 different lubes for the Farley. If you look at the bottom steel plate that goes into the channel, if there is little too no lube remaining it time to give your rest some love, it might just improve your score.

Thanks everyone,
Mark

What lube(s) do you recommend? And Where?

Alan had some proprietary lubes formulated specifically for him after working with some lubricant engineers. Since it sounds like he and Mark were working together on this, apparently, I'm also curious. Alan and I talked about this a great deal. At the very least, he did put a lot of thought and work into the lubes that he used. I say this to bolster confidence in Mark as much as anything, because Alan had done a tone of testing in this regard and I suspect Mark is probably using the same or similar lubes.

Im not sure what others look for but when it comes to a joy stick rest I want one I can make tiny adjustments without overshooting my aim point. Still really like my farley. Take them apart polish the 2 rods and replace all the grease with moly-graph. The new style tensioners from farley are the best. Thats all you need to do
Alex - Lapping the plates in contact areas also helps. I used a piece of 1/4" glass with 1000 grit auto body sandpaper glued to it. A little WD-40 and elbow grease will get a mirror finish.

No Mike. Mark Johnson has nothing more to do with Alan and I don't blame him. Mark is a straight shooter. Alan was not.

I knew something was up with him. He and I were in close communication for a long while and he just dropped off of the face of the earth. That's a shame. He's a good guy. No idea what happened there. FWIW, he has several health issues.
