Factory 6BR rifles?

Noticed that Remington lists the 6mmBR as an option on their 40X rifle. They've got either a 14" or a 10" twist.

Anyone have an idea of how well the factory 6mmBR rifle shoots?

Would be real nice if they'd sell it with a faster twist barrel too...

Any other factory built 6mmBR's avail? Just curious - I like custom rifles as much as the next guy! :)

Cooper offers a 10:1 twist as a no cost option, as it is the same barrel as their 243. If you switch latter it wil cost over $400. Understand, however the 14:1 twist will be more accurate under 300 yards for target, so think about what you are going to use the gun for ahead of time.

Guy, the new savage may be "IT" for a factory 6BR...

Neither a 10tw nor a 14tw will get you much but varmints.

Hope all is well out there!

JB

No!.......10 and 14 twist are not just good for critters.
, I hate blanket/ general statements)
I have a 14:1 twist and it is quite accurate with 68g Bergers.
I suspect the 10:1 would give you more flexability in bullets
chosen. Although I can't compete against a full blown custom, I suspect the Cooper, including mine) could do well an a "factory class" given that it has performed with 1/4 M.O.I. capability.
,The topic of this thread is "factory 6BR rifles").
I don't think one hole performance puts it in a "varments only" category.

My 6BR has an 8 twist and loves the heavier bullets, especially the 90 grain Scenar.
It shoots the 75 Vmax well too but the groups are a little bigger.
But the rabbits don't seem to notice!

My new Cooper M22, Varminter in 6mmBR has 1:8 twist. Special twist is $385 option. I dunno what twist Savage offers. If you are buying a 6mmBR, the faster twist will allow you to handle heavy bullets, i.e. up to about 108 grains, for varmints or competition at long range. In theory, slower twist demands lighter bullets which often do not perform well at extreme distances.

My cooper m22 varminter with a 1-8 twist has just had its first real range test.i loaded several bullets to try and here are the results-i didnt use a chronograph and all bulletts were seated .005 off the lands[thats if my measuring is accurate!]all were 5 shots,

62 berger match 32.5gns-n135 -.575in
60gn sierra hp 32.5gns H4895-.422in
80gn berger match 28.5gns-n135-.435in
and this load made left me gobsmacked
80gn berger match 27.5gns-h4895-.137in just a-ragged hole.
just for fun i fired 5 sierra 55gnblitzkings these were seated well out with hardly any in the neck and yet still went with
32gns-n135-.521in.
to say im pleased is an understatement since this is my first paddle in the big boys pool.im reloadind this afternoon and just upping the loads slightly.
forgot to say all cases were loaded with federal primers.now im going to try cci br4 as a lot of you guys give them a thumbs up.

a very happy garyw.

These same 80 grainers have worked extremely well in many an 8-twist 6BR. They've shot in the high ones for me with a load of N135. In your case 27.5gr of H4895 is a pretty mild load--but with results like that, why change!

The 14 inch twist is supposed to only stabilize the 60 to 70 grain bullets. Since I bought some 80 grain bulk Winchester bullets to fire form some .243 Winchester brass, I tried them in the 14 inch twist barrel on my Remington 40XB Rangemaster, unfortunately not with the thumbhole stock which was not available at the time I bought this one!) They seemed to stabilize well and shot very accurately! As I write this I have a target with five bullseyes with five one-hole groups in it! I don't usually shoot that well but I must have been having a particularly good day that day! :)

paul;
im hoping that n135 shoots for me also as i have 4 tubs of it!
i am waiting for some 75gn vmax bullets to come into a gun shop and will test them as well.i bought this gun just to see what all the folks that own them rave about, now i know.
at what stage of load development will i be best going out to 200yds and then onto 300yds?.

They also offer a 12 twist option as well!

As far as "accuracy of a Factory rifle question".
Again mine,Cooper) will shoot 1/4" in light air conditions, and I have seen Savages that do as well or better than that. Last 300 yard varment match I was in; a Savage beat out some custom stuff to win, however, normally a custom rig will almost always better out a true factory rifile. Since I am an engineer, I enjoy the concept of "best bang for the buck", and am not impressed with someone simply spending a lot of money to win.
Yes a Cooper is more money than a Savage, but not that much more, and hardly the same amount of money as a Custom gun of three,3) times the money. So as a result I enjoy shooting in the factory class. When I have barrowed a custom gun to shoot; it was kind of weird/ boring, not having to work so hard to get "one hole shots".
