Factory 6.5x284 ammo

has anyone had experience with the Hunter Shack Munitions,HSM) 6.5x284 loaded with 142SMK at 2840fps? also, anyone used the nosler or norma 6.5x284 ammo available from midwayusa?

Nope, likely never will. I've found the 6.5 X 284 to be a bit finicky. While virtually any test load has produced under 3/4 moa at 100 or 200 yards, very few loads indeed have given me under 1/4 moa combined with the required velocity, Extreme Spread and Standard Deviation numbers I wanted. It would be very unlikely that a factory loading would duplicate those results.

And if someone wishes to comment upon the ranges I test loads at, it's all I have available locally.

I shot 6 rounds of Midways 6.5/284 Norma loaded with Nosler 125gr Partition,@3050fps. Primers were flattened BIG time! Three inch groups at 100 yards out of a NEW rifle. They were the first 6 down the tube. I may try a few now that it's got about 100 rounds down the pipe.The rifle is a new Savage F-class.

i have the same rifle, you may want to try the 140gr norma with partitions. the 1-8 twist is better for the heavy bullets. i have the same gun and i shot the hsm 142gr smks, they shot a about 3/4 inch at 100 and 4 inches at 300 yards. so i took the gun to a gunsmith and had it recrowned, glass bedded, and cryo treated. when i get it back and shoot it i will try to post results. also, a good option if you do not handload yet is to call superior ammo and order a sample pack of ammo. its fully custom handloaded for whatever you want. visit www.superiorammo.com

I'm shooting 49.5gr of H4831sc with the 140 Berger VLD's.I had some 1 inch groups at 200 with The Berger's. I just picked up the factory ammo so I had something to shoot while waiting on my reloading supplies.

Hey Man,
I finally got a few rds. down my pipe. 12, I think. Taking my time and breaking in the barrel. My last 3 shot group was .322
at 100 yds. I have not had a chance to go to the long distance spot with my Savage yet. Hope to shoot it some more tomorrow. Bill
