F-open /FTR spotting scope use

For those that use a spotting scope to look at mirage for wind condition in FTR or F-open, do you check the condition after every shot to verify any changes like sling shooters do, or do you see the condition of the wind through the spotting scope and shoot through the condition ? Any input is appreciated.
Thank you,
DS

It may depend on the quality of each. The new HD glass in the higher end rifle scopes can be as good if not better than an older spotting scopes in seeing mirage. I look at both, but still can shoot fast if conditions are looking the same. Take extra care in setting up your spotting scope, so very little time is wasted in going back and forth between them. Seems like you are always better off buying the best glass you can afford for both, even if you may have to sacrifice somewhere else.

I look at both constantly in low wind conditions. I like to see the mirage agreeing in both. Does not always happen though:rolleyes:.

Thank you for your input. I am just starting to incorporate the use of a spotting scope to my shooting and was wandering how often users actually looked through their spotting scopes.
Thanks again,
DS

Yes.

Longer version:
I look through it every shot. I note what has changed since the last time I looked and adjust accordingly. Thus, I "shoot through" a lot of conditions. Sometimes, I don't even go back to the rifle scope before firing the shot.

Just a follow up. If your current spotting scope has the capability to accept a "long eye relief" fixed powder (25X to 35X) eye piece, go for it. Big improvement over the standard 20x60 type. If you do not have a good spotting scope now, be sure to get one that can accept one, or buy new bare with a LER eye piece. Easier to set-up and no issues with glasses preventing you from getting a full image in the scope.

Thank you Steve, I have the standard 20x60 eyepiece. I am having issues looking through the spotting scope with my shooting glasses, so I was taking the glasses off to look and then put them on to shoot. I will look into the ELR eyepieces. Input is much appreciated.
Thanks

My shooting buddy and i both bought these back in 2016. we shoot F Class regularly. we have been very happy with these scopes and the price is reasonable. they are fixed 27 power, 80mm objective, and HD glass.

Those look like a great bargain. I would buy now in a heartbeat if I had to. Paid what ?? 3X for the Kowa TSN-880 Series with the fixed X LER lens. The glass in most new scopes are so much better than the glass from only a few years ago. Someone was talking about the quality of glass is improving due to the glass technology used in the new UHD monitors. Steve

Had a chance last fall in Coalinga to put the Celestron next to the Kowa at 1000 yards. No difference. If my Kowa gets broken/lost/stolen I would look real hard at Celestron.

I'm just now starting out with a spotting scope after several years shooting f class without one. I bought a Konus for now, it was on sale for $205.00 with free shipping. I will put my $ together later and purchase a better one, possibly the Celestron Regal M2.

I just sold my older Kowa and bought a Celestron Regal M2 80mm with both a 20-60x zoom and a 27 LER eyepieces.
It serves both my F- class shooting and my Eagle nest monitoring. It really is the best bang for the buck.
