F-Class

Precision Rifle and Tool Lowboy seems to be the most popular up here in MN. Awesome stock in my opinion.

There is a lot of great stocks and stock makers. The best will likely come down to your budget and how long you are willing to wait. Precision Rifle and Tool builds great stocks and generally pretty quick. Speedy has a new stock on the market that looks very promising. McMillan MBRs work just fine. Bill Shehane at D&B Supply builds his own wood version of a MBR and it will do the job. He usually has some available in a reasonable amount of time.

Good luck with your new build

Don't know of anything Speedy as had in last few years other than Speedy Robertson which went to Jerry Stiller when he closed SG&Y which is now unavailable. I there is something new from Speedy I would like to know!!!!

Anybody know who took over Robertson Composites? I remember seeing that Ian had gone broke or something and sold everything to some guy in the states. His GBF stock is one that i've always wanted.

I have a Precision Rifle and Tool "lowboy" and it is very nice. Having said that, I have 3 McMillan "Tooley MBR" stocks that fit better for me. I am quite sure most, if not all, the stocks made for F-Class are excellent stocks>>> You must find one that fits and suits you best.. Go to matches and ask to "see" what they have and try it laying down, that will tell you quick if that particular stock is for you>>>>UNLESS they have had their L.O.P. modified that is way out of the norm..

I have one from PR&T. I had Ray make it without the adjustments. He made it as long as possible then a 1" recoil pad. That got me the length that fit, and his comb is high enough for me without adjustments. I'm building another now, and going to try the Jim See design from Ryan Pierce.

Ray Bowman from PR&T puts out some awesome stocks. He can put you in a FTR or F-Open stock that has a proven record.

Re the various lowboy and low profile designs, remember you only need the low-profile section in the first 6-9" where the stock rides on the front rest. Reduced top-to-bottom stock depth on this 6-9" front end will indeed move the bore axis closer to the bag, and effectively lower the center of gravity.

However, other than weight reduction, there is no good reason to have the stock ultra-thin (top to bottom) close to the action. You need enough wood/glass/metal there. If your stock lacks strength and hinges right forward of the action you are going to be miserable. Send me a PM if you want specifics of what we discovered.

Or, you could just write an article for all of us to read.
Do it on your spare time, we all know you have plenty of it. ;D

Joking aside, thank you for all the hard work and time you dedicate to this site.

I for one would be very interested in the effects of: bore height to bag & center of gravity. I can see an exagerated effect of movement as center of gravity goes up, but if you have a solid setup, should that effect be negated?

Or is there more than that and I'm missing the big picture?

In a word, torque. Not a problem with lighter calibers, a big problem with my .300 WSM. :(

How do rumors get started? Like this. ::)

Ian occasionally posts to this forum. Perhaps you could PM him, and if you're lucky, he'll spend his valuable time and offer advice.

Ian sold the company to a group of Canucks, it went bankrupt, it was sold to a business in billings montana and the equipment was moved there, new news should be out by spring, await the update please,

I was involved in the underbid for the assests, and helped the folks in Montana deal with the assests & help them set up shop.

that is all for now,

Carry on
