F-Class vs Benchrest. Sorry for my ignorance up front!

Oh, i should have mentioned....
You'll see a lot more 6mm class cartridges in BR. (Except for 30BR).
6BR, 6PPC, 6BRA, 6BRX.
For some reason other cartridges (6GT for example) are really shunned away from in BR.
And they'll be shooting the 105-110gr weight bullets. (110-125gr in the 30BR)
308, 284, 6.5mm, and others that are a staple of F-Class you won't see at short range BR.
Unless they have a Factory class at that match.
And Factory will mean factory barreled action. No aftermarket barrels.

Really there is only 2 things to consider.
1. can you shoot in the prone position
2. What type of matches in your area that are close by. How far do you want to drive on the weekend.
And with those answers, you can figure out the rest.

Also, LR BR (600 and 1000 yds) is completely different that short range benchrest.
In a single day IBS LR BR match I'll shoot around 50 rounds. With NBRSA it's around 70 rounds. In short range you tune and load at the bench while shooting your record target. In LR BR you tune before the match
and load up everything you are going to shoot.
I like LR BR because we do focus on shooting the smallest groups possible at long range. While we are ranked equally on score and group, consistent small groups are more usually difficult to achieve than high scores .

I have the same issue with shooting Hi power as well. 2yrs ago I had a 4 level fusion in my neck that I never truly recovered from. That is why I can no longer shoot Hi power. This is what drove me to post this thread. I still what to shoot and meet awesome people, just have to find a new way to do it.
PMing with newbieshooter, he did a great job at breaking down the differences between the two. It would seem that with my Hi Power background, F-Class would be a better fit, however Bench would be easier on the body. He and RKS also had a great point. Since I'm just getting started, then build a light gun that I can compete in both events with. Try both and see which one suits me better. Then, if I do what to focus on F-Class, sell the LG and build a HG or even upgrade the LG into a HG.

I know I'm about to get thrown off my own thread by all the old school bench guys for this question I'm about to ask, but.
Has there been any sightings of guys or gails starting to run the 6mm ARC in Benchrest? Just seem to me to be a suitable round when you compare it to the 6PPC, BR class of cartridges'. I'm also already setup to load for it. Same caliber, same bullet, similar velocities.

I shoot both most every week. 600 Benchrest and 1000 F Class. Doing it with one rifle is possible buy you are going to have a disadvantage. 6 Dasher or BRA are great for 600 Benchrest and F Class, and 1,000 Benchrest. At 1,000 F Class it will be harder to score well. Still great fun!

This is not correct. The most common scope on the line in F class is probably the Nightforce 15-55 Compitition, followed by a the Vortex Golden Eagle 15-60. After that there are a collection of other scopes either older NF NXS and BRs in the max 42x power range, Sightrons, and March scopes.
As for reticles, I've used ones with hashes and the NP-2DD and DDR-2 from NF. I can't say I like one much better than the other for F class shooting. Of my 3 NF comp scopes, 2 have the DDR-2 and one has the FCR-1.
As for reticles, one of the most popular is the NF DDR-2
Just get a 17 pound dasher going with a 3” stock forearm and you can do both. The extra 4 pounds in f class won’t matter much with something like a low recoil dasher.
Depends on distance. At 500yd, 600yd and 1000yd you have true 'accepted MOA' rings. At 300, 800 and 900 it will be off. 300yd is actually smaller and 800 & 900 will be larger since it uses the same target as 1000yd.

I prefer the F-class rules, but need to shoot from a bench ( multiple injuries)
I would need to find an F class shoot that allows benches, or just shoot benchrest with my F class bypod and bag if they'll let me.
I mostly compete against myself anyway so I'm guessing they will take my match fees just the same, I just won't be able to compete with scores

Get a NRA Adaptive Card, I bet if you want to shoot a match and there is no bench a good match director will let you bring your own, just ask.
