F class rule

I had heard that there was going to be changes to F class rules for front rest vers bi pod has anyone heard anything about this?

Generally the rule changes come out sometime after the NRA High Power committee meets in October, and become effective in January of the new year.

Here's the changes for 2010:

http://www.nrahq.org/compete/rules/rul_hpr_10.pdf

Unfortunately they aren't really formatted so that you can easily pick out what subtle word changes might have taken place inside a paragraph... but I don't think I see anything about F-class rests.

I'm curious; what had you heard? Maybe something will be coming up at the next meeting? Scuttlebutt is always good ;)

I believe the front rest/bipod issue concerns the ever changing name and rules for F(R), F/TR. The powers that be think shooters understand the term F/TR better than F(R) even though they mean the same thing. So once again F(R) is out and F/TR is in.

The calibers stay the same (.308, .223) but the bullet weights, name and allowed fore end hardware seem to change every year and shooters are starting to get confused.

The latest DCRA journal. "Canadian Marksman", states that the latest permutation of F/TR allows bipod only and any bullet weight in both .223 and .308. These are International ICFRA rules and the U.S. NRA rules may differ so carefully check the NRA rule book.

I get this NRA E-NEWS to my email.....it has this link that lists just the changes, or I should say a page on the NRA web site for all the rule changes.
They are listed by Type and year last printed, if you click on High Power it will show the changes.

These are the only changes for 2010 I see for F-Class.

SECTION 22 - F-CLASS
5.6.1 F-Class Prone - F-Class Prone is fired in the prone
position from the shoulder. The rifle may be supported with a
rear and/or front rest or with a bipod and/or sling and rear rest
(See Rule 3.4).
9.1 Changing Rifle - A competitor may change rifles to
another of the same or different caliber only between fired
matches or between stages of a multiple stage match even if
these stages are included in an aggregate match. A competitor
may not change his or her rifle during the firing of a single
stage unless it has become disabled and has been so
designated by the Chief Range Officer. For the purpose of
this rule, the firing of a stage is considered to have started
when the competitor has fired his or her first record shot. A
claim that a rifle is disabled must be made immediately. All
shots fired up to the time that the claim is made will stand as
part of the official score. (See Rules 10.9 and 10.10).

There is a relatively recent change from F(Restricted) to F(TR) for ICFRA, as mentioned... but that other change is actually from January 2008 - look at the PDF, it's the same one as I linked directly above. It has the changes from 2008, 2009, & 2010 all in one document.

Those guys, here I thought I was getting a break down on the changes from this year...my own fault as I speed throught it.

Thanks,

As others have indicated, NRA (US) and ICFRA (everyone else) rules are a bit different, but for the sake of argument,
Here is the International Confederation of Fullbore Rifle Associations rule that pertains to what you would know as FTR:

F2.3. An ‘F’ Class Restricted rifle is limited to .223 Remington or .308 Winchester calibre
chambers or their commercial metrification equivalents. Chamber dimensions must conform
to SAAMI or CIP dimensions. Ammunition may be commercially made or hand-loaded as
defined in Rule F2.23. There is no restriction on bullet weight. The Restricted rifle class is
limited to the use of an attached bipod and/or a sling as front supports, optionally together
with a rear bag which provides no positive mechanical means of returning the rifle to its
precise point of aim for the next shot . The overall weight must not exceed 8.25kg including
all attachments (such as, but not limited to, its sights and bipod, if any). NB: An ‘attachment’
is defined as in Rule F2.2. All other Technical Rules apply
.
