F-Class now has it's own Rules Book (2024)

Not really...why, way back in 2012 or so, I recall this same discussion occurring on this forum when a ban on "free recoil" was realized residing in the rules for F-Class competition and was being bantered around by forum members. It's nothing new for me. It's been the rule for quite some time!

(Could be the reason some of the forum members have drug out their "popcorn munching" comics!)
i would say that they are shooters that just like the weekend fun because the competitor knows the rule but even them sometimes forget the rule.

Heman,
It's impossible to give it a number but I have seen several that free recoil their rifles. Mostly Open guys but a few FTR guys as well.

As a sometime RO at the SWN and FCNC in Phoenix, I really don't want to have to watch every shooter to police their adherence to the rules concerning free recoil. I would like to think that my fellow competitors would just abide by the rules as they exist and life would be simpler for all concerned.

If there are going to be rules, they need to be followed. If no one is willing to enforce them then why have them? I am very much in favor of comprehensive rules we have for F Class. While some will fuss about it being overreach or micromanaging or whatever, the problem with all the rules begins with the some shooters pushing the envelope a little too far. Then somebody has to write a new rule to fix that and so on and so forth.

In the end, the rules are written to protect the shooter and the integrity of the discipline.
and not to play favoritism to particular people.

What do you mean??

Your shoulder should be touching the butt plate when the rifle is fired. Free recoil is when there is a space between your shoulder and the butt plate when the rifle is fired, or you are shooting from a position where the rifle is not shouldered i.e. creedmoor shooting position
like having a R.A.D. system on the butt of a rifle. the butt pad at the end is like a shoulder pad and the space in between that pad is completely open.

The whole rule...

(a) "During team matches only; team members may communicate with
each other via hard-wired or wireless communications devices. These
communication devices must not transmit over a radio frequency, and
must not interfere with safety, range operations or other competitors"

I think why wireless bluetooth headsets are allowed is because bluetooth transmits over a way lower frequency that does not "normally" interfere with standard radio communications?........is this close or am I way off track here the rule says "radio frequency" BT transmit over 2-5 GHZ

So, no matter how many times I read the new rules, I don't see anything forbidding the use of;
1. Electronic levels
2. Chronographs
3. any other electronic device that doesn't specifically use radio frequency.

Or is my reading comprehension that poor?

Frank
go to rule 3.18 these devices or equipment would have to be approved prior to the match.

why is it not permitted. what is the difference between a spirit level and the electronic level. they are both for cant, one is electronic, and the other is oil based they do the same thing, and the electronic one has no sound. Also where (what page) in the NRA high power rules dates 2020 does mention what you have posted.
Apparently the new rulebook had a statement about electronics levels being illegal but they must have removed it because I couldn’t find it anywhere in the newly published book.

Neither did according to 3.18, if it’s not mention it’s forbidden. But i submitted to the rules committee through the NRA competition office the device along with the tuner to get official approval. The rules committee is a group of four people from what I heard and they are shooters and i think they decide what is good for everybody without any consideration of the competitor. i think I’m going to lobby the NRA competition office to start a F-Class Unlimited class so that we don’t have to deal with a group that make rules in there advantage. The draft rules should have been sent out to the competition world for input and comments but yet they decided they know what is best for everyone. That is wrong. I have read the rules and will be one of those people that if I see a rule broken , i will protest.

I’m not sure where you are going with your post. The new rule book doesn’t mention electronic levels or spirit level usage, so I will be using one until I see it in written explicitly the rules. I’m not sure why everyone is so up in arms over the rulebook. If it’s says something is illegal now, don’t do it. If it doesn’t say it’s illegal, go ahead and do it if it makes you feel better. Glad to know that you are going be the rules hawk at your events, I’m sure you will everyone’s favorite competitor as you spend your free time looking for rules violations and protesting. lol.

if I see it, I will report it if I don't then whatever. my point is that we have people making rules without regards to the competitor's input. WE are the people that make up this class and should have a say in it. how do you feel about this one. Rule 11.8 "No member of the National Championship Protest Committee may be a competitor in that tournament. Except, F-Open and F T/R competitors may serve on the protest committee for the other discipline. You think this might be a conflict of interest? what happens when a person in on this committee and doesn't like you or all of them don't like you, you lose. This sentence was added and wasn't in the NRA HP rules. So, you see even protesting could be problems. Things like this is why we are discussing (other people call it wining) these rules. I'm a competitor and don't want to take the chance of being DQ after traveling many miles and paying all those expenses just to go home. So i'm doing what is needed to have legal devices and equipment prior to the event.

Aren’t we all??? Nobody is planning to use illegal devices. I really don’t know what you want me to say. I plan on competing the exact same way I have been for 5 years, which is attempting to be within the rules at all times. I don’t consider it my place to police other competitors and honestly nobody likes the rules cop that walks around and nitpicks everyone’s setup. If you want to be that guy, more power to you; but that isn’t my scene and I go to the line to shoot without complete disregard if my neighbor 3 lanes down has a timer with an audible beeper. I also don’t see how an electronic level gives a competitive edge over a spirit level.
I say bring your best gun and best shooting abilities to the line and beat everyone on the line. I would take no joy in winning because a guy that outshot me was DQ’d on some stupid rules infraction.

So you are a shooter . Got it have a good time no need to respond

I believe that rule actually prevents a conflict of interest. If there is a protest in f-open and the committee is made up of f-tr shooters, the members of the committee gain nothing by voting one way or the other.

As it is now we have F-O, F-TR, AR tac (with large and small frame ARs), F-Tac, and F-Prac. If we did it the right way everyone could have their own set of rules, play the way they want to, and then everyone would win in their class.

Are you NOT a shooter??? If so, why are you so up in arms about what is and isn’t in the rules book. Clearly, something must be getting lost in translation between us Jim, and I get the feeling you are trying to argue with me, but I don’t understand why?? I compete in the F open class and I’m fairly competitive and have won my fair share of events, but I’m not trying to win at the expense of someone else’s DQ, and I will NOT be walking the line looking for rules violations. I find a better use of my time to be speaking with other competitors about both shooting and non-shooting subjects. I’m a people person and I love to talk with others to find out what they’re into and what makes them tick. I was DQ’d years ago from a high level state golf championship for a rules infraction that I had no idea I committed until my playing partner raised the question at the scorers table AFTER the round. Driving home 5 hours after being DQ’d for something I didn’t even know I had done, was the most miserable feeling in the world, and I wouldn’t want any shooter to go through that at a big event.

Lol. Your own personalized set of rules, written by you, for you.

Didn’t want to cause any confusion with my poorly placed joke, so I deleted the end of my original message. Sorry to anyone that misread “F-Individual’s name” joke (including my own name). I was merely saying that F-Dave M rules book would be written be me, specifically for me….then I couldn’t complain about anything. Poor joke that I completely understand how it could be misunderstood if one wasn’t following this entire ridiculous thread.
