F-Class now has it's own Rules Book (2024)

People are so freaking wound up about free recoil. I say just get an adjustable hydraulic RAD 2A and you can play with the springs and hydraulic orifice size and dramatically change the recoil pulse. The force is the same, but it is first dampened and the “collision time” is significantly increased.

And since it decompresses on its own after absorbing recoil it is effectively a mechanical mechanism that assists in returning the rifle to battery. But in the "spirit" of a more primitive form of the sport, the rule book will look the other way.

Seven pages of cheap entertainment....

And the subject of panties vs g-strings hasn't even come up yet. Everytime I'm ready to jump in and go shoot a "real" match (and spend a few hundred dollars doing it) I come across a thread like this and think do I really want to get involved with these ladies? Doesn't sound like a lot of fun. As soon as the sun comes up I'm going to go shoot in the field in front of the house. By myself, under my rules, and laugh about all of this. ;)

And this is where the real fun is. No rules MOM. LOL.

I’ll take all the barbs here whether intended for me or not. This week I’ll have my best shooting set up in a decade and it will be the only Open gun(s) steered from the rear with an angled butt stock and hard hold with a pinch bag, so free recoil isn’t my personal issue, but it’s a pretense button.

I’m pretty darn reserved here until insults start flying, and that meant until yesterday. I have never seen a discipline define itself in the rules by pointing out in writing that it is not “another discipline” and dwelling on that, and then doubling down on that even more explicitly, again and again.

If I was in Benchrest, I’d first be insulted, and then I’d look closer and legitimately wonder who do they think they are kidding? How would we like the vibe from high power or PRS rules to imply by calling out “F-Class” by name, that they are challenging, while we are sedentary, blind, shaky-handed, old, slow, recoil sensitive weaklings? We are flat telegraphing condescension (“devolve”? (-unbelievably ironic word choice for ppl that no longer hold guns but want custom rules to stay or get into “high power” - “some form of prone Benchrest?” Are we special enough to be talking like this?), while pretending that what we do is actually demanding, like it used to be, just as long as we touch the gun.

Are the F-class rules perfect......NO and never will be. No rule book is perfect. There is always room for improvement. I see things in the F-class rules that could be stated better to make it clearer. Maybe someone should be appointed to accept rule changes/clarifications that could be reviewed next year by the NRA.

In making rules for anything If you think you can make a rule FOOL PROOF, you are a FOOL.
There will always be someone to violate a rule in a way that you didn't think of.

Personally I think the shooters should have a vote in the rules. If the majority want free recoil allowed, let them, who cares. I have rifles that like a decent hold and one that shoots both ways. A guy isn’t going to win or loose because he shoot’s one way or the other! The same goes for rests with rollers or felt sides. It’s just not a factor that makes a difference other than convenience. Open Class should be just that with minimal rules. Just my opinion..

How was this not addressed in the rules revision?. It must be an advantage. As with all other modifications to a basic rifle that people pay for. If it doesn't help, people wouldn't use it.. How does this fit in the spirit of F-Class when anything other than sandbags on a front rest is a violation of that spirit? Or should I go read the rules again?
