F-Class Nationals a new stock for me

Kings X

Gold $$ Contributor
Trying to post pictures for the first time. Hope they come through.
One of two new stocks to try before the Nationals.
Barreled action is in 284 Walker Texas Ranger.
Built by me.
Hope to get second stock finished before I leave on Friday.

I like how you carried the underbelly stiffening all the way to the grip.
Can you post a picture off the bottom tracking surfaces?

David,
The stock is pretty much standard as far a bag riding design. 3” wide up front with rear milled to be in-line.
Since you are a “stock” guy – let me put in some more details.
{Disclaimer: I am having trouble holding my present stock the same way every time. So this is a stock for me. I hope it fits MY style of handling. Not everyone has to agree with my thought process.}
My present wooden stock torques and picks up off the bag on one side. I want to stop the effect that this has on the sliding movement during recoil.
This is a semi low-rider forend. It is a thicker than most. The tip is sandwiched with a layer of carbon fiber for stiffness. The transition from flat to keel is via a large radius to eliminate a “flex” point.
I think the torque is causing the stock to twist. It is hard to control the snap when it un-twist. That is where the keel comes into play. The deeper stock plus the triangle cross section SHOULD resist the twisting motion. The belly had room for a 5/8” x 5” mercury recoil reducer well below the axis of the bore.
The bottom of the butt section is wide enough to keep from riding the top of the bag. The lower angles mate to the angles of the ears on the bag. I use a very firm rear bag. The angles on the top are fitting to my cheek. I just lightly touch my cheek and the scope lines up easily. The scope is also offset 3/8” to lessen cheek pressure.
There is another 13 ounce recoil reducer attached to the butt plate.

Kings X,
Have you notice a considerable difference using the mercury recoil reducer?

In my 40 years of shooting I have never done a true test. I have not taken out lead weights and replaced with a recoil reducer to see the difference.
A fool and his money are eaisly parted. I need weight - I buy a reducer.

To much of a good thing can be bad.
When we were doing the stock testing a few years back for the 7mm's, we did one with three 16 oz and one 12 oz mercury recoil reducers.
In my opinion it was worse than the same stock with 3 lbs 12 oz of weight added. When you fired the rifle you received two distinct recoil pulses. The first pulse was the recoil of the rifle, I believe the second was the mercury's mass catching up to the rifle. The first pulse was very manageable but the second pulse while not all that strong was sharp and distracting.
