F Class Nationals 2025

Congratulations to the winners and particularly the folks running the event. Watching live streaming of competitors shots on the Shotmarker system was very enjoyable. Cudo’s to everyone involved that made that possible.

Congrats to all the winners in both Mid and Long Range, there were no gimme matches the whole week.

It was an awesome match and the folks at Winnequah put on a hell of a match. We had hundreds of devices on the Shotmarker system at one time and I don't remember it ever gong down because of it. Great weather and a tricky tricky range led to all kinds of shake ups each day especially as long range went on.

I am curious. Why so many crossfires?
I honestly have no idea how many crossfires there were, but I did hear more than one competitor talk about how they've recently switched to a bigger magnum and how it affected gun handling that they weren't used to, so maybe that was some of it at least for some of the crosses in Open.

At one point, the MD did call out that there were a couple crossfires that weren't getting owned which happens on both pulled or e-target alike unfortunately but while shooting or scoring I'd say I heard people calling out misses or crosses so that's good and what you hope for from all competitors.

I can say that at least from what I saw or heard it didn't appear that there were really that many more crosses than I've seen at other major matches but of course I was only on the line part of the time. Heck a couple years ago I had someone shoot my target at SWN throughout the Palma portion (we never did find out where it was coming from) and the shooter clearly didn't seem to be working to correct it since they kept doing it.

Back to Nationals, the line officers seemed to be taking care of issues as you'd expect, and if someone challenged for value, a missed, or a crossed shot, then it was escalated to someone in the stat shack who was taking a look at all the details Adam or Laura would look at to make a decision on the challenge. From my perspective that's all you can ask for and I suppose it's just something you have to accept using e-targets, and I respect people for attending or not attending based on their feeling about that. I think most competitors know the pros and cons of both pulled and e-targets at this point and I know plenty of people on both sides of that fence and it does affect attendance and expectations both ways (I'm not out to debate either one, I'm just saying).

The only two crosses I can specifically talk to were my teammates, and in both cases they told me it was due to poor gun handling. I can't speak to anyone else's crossfires as I didn't see them personally or talk to anyone else about them if it happened.

I had the discussion concerning crossfires with a fellow Open shooter. His hypothesis is that when shooting pulled targets, the focus remains on the target the entire time; you are looking at it prior to firing and looking at it for the 'drop' and subsequent score. That sounds plausible to me. Conversely, on e targets, you turn away from the scope/scopes to view the scoring pad and then back to the target. In addition, dedicated e target lines seem to have the target spacing a little less than pull targets. When the mirage was light enough to run a Majesta at 80x, and the condition allowed running several shots, it was easy to not notice the target number unless you maintained strict discipline to intentionally confirm the proper target before firing. However, at Winnequah, there are prominent target numbers in the upper left corner that are easily visible....so there's that to consider.

Thanks for the responses @F Class John & @rardoin. I followed most of it online, that was very cool. I noticed quite a few really good shooters crossfire which surprised me. I wasn't sure if it was a factor of range design or E Targets, or both.

F Class John I want to thank you publicly for taking time during / between relays to assist me with my Rodzilla rest which the 5 axis top was stuck. Looking back, stopping you to ask “what to do” was probably not appropriate when you were in the midst of concentrating on your shooting. Its was an act of kindness by you I will never forget.
John walked me briskly to his truck, grabbed his tools and disassembled enough to teach me what needed to be done. I later made the repair and in the meantime Rodzilla expedited a part over night that did improve the problem I was having.
Again, thank you John and congratulations on a finish in the tournament.. it was tough out there!

Pretty amazing that several of them stayed in the top 10 after cross firing.

It was my pleasure to help and I'm glad I could get you back functioning for the rest of the match.

No surprise there, John is 'that kind of guy'. F-class has it's share of such folks. It is one of the main reasons I jumped in to the sport. Rod is also very supportive of the rests he sells.

Question for y’all~ I noticed there were about 130 F open shooters and 70 ish FTR shooters, how long does it take to run that match per day ?
Thx
Jim

Saw the name Erik Cortina in the competitor list and was looking forward to watching his E- Target and seeing how things developed for him at this match, but he did not shoot. What's going on?

The list of names was people who have shot at Winnequah club before. It included sling shooters also. The names that had FO or FTR after the name, were the ones that were registered for these matches.
