F-Class Front Rest and Rear Bag Questions

I’m trying to get stuff together to shoot a little F-Class. I picked up a SEB mini a while back and plan to use that. I shot sling and irons when I was shooting a lot, but have been on a bit of a hiatus for 2 years or so because we had another girl. I don’t know much at all about F-Class equipment. Hoping you guys can point me in the right direction.

Can I be competitive with the SEB Mini?

Are there upgrades that I need to make to make it work better?

What rear bag should I look at and what height do I need?

Thanks in advance

Sorry if I posted in the wrong spot

You take the ideals that will be postEd here but before buy go watch some matches and talk to the shooters. Most will let you sit behind gun and maybe offer to you shoot a time or two after match And you can get a feel for what you need.
not sure if looking FTR or open there rules to what can use in each

@cfreeman If that is you, Charles, glad to see you back. Also a pleasure to watch you put on a show at Palo Alto. Yes, a Seb mini is definitely competitive. I like the Seb big foot bag but , for a smaller footprint, Edgewood makes good bags. Medium to tall would work with the mini. I finally got back out to PA myself after a few year hiatus.

If this isn’t Charles…all still applies. LOL

Thanks for the good advice! I will. I’d be shooting open with the seb mini. I bought it a while back and have been out of the game for a minute. I was hoping some Mini users would chime in.

It’s me. I miss shooting with y’all pretty bad. I’ll check those bags out. Glad to hear you made it back out there!

For those who don’t know, cfreeman is one hell of a sling shooter and will adapt and excel in F open rather quickly. Looking forward to seeing you on the line.

Cfreeman, nice to hear from you. Many congrats on the girls. It’s for sure a life changer, but for the better. We shoot at PA, your old stomping grounds, every first Saturday fclass and every second Saturday field precision rifle. We do shoot open on the second Saturday too. Come by and check us out and we have many shooters that can help you with your needs. Welcome to the dark side…lol. I had to say that…

A 4 inch high Edgewood or Protektor bag will work well.... and heck Dima make's a great one also.
Finding the right one may or may not be bit of trial and error however.

Make sure it is a flat top rear bag such as a Protektor DR. If the stock you are shooting has parallel butt and forearm, it will track better in the bags. Also check for spacing between the ears so the bottom of the stock rides in the bottom between the ears. I measure the bottom of the stock (on the butt) before ordering to get the correct spacing. Manufacturers use different materials for the ears, so that will have to be taken into consideration. Cheers

A Mini is as competitive as anything. Take a look at F Class Products accessories for them.

I use two Mini’s. They have plenty of height adjustability, first through the elevation screw, but equally through the legs’ angle.

I realize lately that I put the gun higher than I need to, with a bag on top of a nearly three inch block sometimes.

The MIni can handle that as well as no rear block.

The Mini has a pivoting head which is very convenient in setup.

A little trick for those who really like to front load the fore end against the stop, orient the Mini so that one of the three legs goes straight out to the front, in line with the barrel. This will keep it from trying to rock forward under front loading.

My experience has been that the height of the rear bag will depend on your positional comfort behind the rifle for a full 25 and 22 minutes.

Yep. May be necessary to stack boards underneath. I find it helpful to experiment with this at home while dry firing, and closing the eyes to find the comfortable setup vs looking thru the scope and forcing a fit.
