F Class, 1 or 2 rifles?

When I took out a insurance policy on my guns, he asked me to read him off the serial numbers.....i told him I better fax them.

He called me back and said.."you know, this is ridiculous" ;D

I hope to have many grandsons and granddaughters to equip!

See if you have enough you don't have to remember come-ups for each distance, you just use the correct rifle. :o

Ah yes. The famous "Mark Walker Approach to Match Rifles."

Both Eric and XTR are correct. My come up sheet for a Palma format reads: Black, Red, Grey.

Numbers confuse me... ;)

No one would notice or care if you didn't keep on winning. My view is that would not change if you only had one rifle.

How does that work? You can unscrew a barrel...

Bayou, Yea man it is that easy. All you need is a Barrel Vise and an Action Wrench, barrel changes on all of my switch barrel rifles ( I own four) takes about 3 minutes. I don't even have to remove the scope or the stock. Unscrew one barrel and screw another on there.

You can certainly do this with most bolt guns, and certainly on all of the Remington 700's and clones of that action. A couple of the custom actions even make it very easy as they have the recoil lug as a part of the action itself, this is true for Farley and Pierce for sure and I am pretty sure some other custom actions as well. I have one Defiance Action that is a switch barrel rifle and it has the rcoil lug like on the Remington 700 but Defiance "Pins" there lugs making this real easy. You also can have your recoil lug pinned on any Remington 700 as well.

On the Reminton 700's and other actions were the recoil lug goes on the barrel you will have to remove these stocks, but the actions with an integral lug you do not.

That was not my question, notice the lack of a question mark at the end of my previous statement. The use of the ellipsis (...) was very appropriate; to mark the intentional omission of a part of the sentence. In other words, I was leaving it up to you gentle readers to finish the statement, however you wanted.

However, I read you answer fully and it's very good and nicely detailed. I am well aware that you can swap barrels on a bolt gun with little difficulty, a vise, action wrench and some headspace guages, that's if you've not taken the time to make an alignement mark on the barrel.

Hello broncman...it might just not be the best of ideas for having a F-Open rifle for MR and another for LR; rather, picking a single rifle cartridge (one bullet with one charge) that will serve you well across the entire MR/LR spectrum? Yet, many competitors do use a separate rifle for MR and LR in F-Open. In the case of F-TR, one is well relegated to just one cartridge, and limited to using a certain bullet weight for MR, another for LR as one might choose. And in any case, it's always prudent to have a backup rifle for either F-Class discipline for mechanical emergency.

However, I am a strong proponent for another F-Open "2-rifle approach" to the MR/LR spectrum...not separated for exclusive use at MR or for LR, but rather separated for use relative to the difficulty of wind conditions.

God gave us the Win .284 (and its wildcat) for F-Open shooting so that with a single high BC and accurate bullet, we could competitively "run with" the 6mm's at MR and the magnums at LR in general wind conditions! Dealing with a single cartridge at various MR/LR distances over time and in a variety of environmental conditions gives one an invaluable "eye" for the bullet-drift effects from wind/mirage that can be quite beneficial. Reference John Myers with his Win .284 wind skills across the spectrum, or David Bailey constantly and skillfully shooting his "sub-Win-.284-velocities" in his .280 Remington.

I tend to be more cowardly when facing the wind than John or David are! While I'm quick to say that the Win .284 is my "workhorse" across the MR/LR spectrum, I will only "ride" it entirely across that sprectrum so long as the wind conditions at any particular distance do not exceed my pucker factor. Then I will go to a 7mm RSAUM backup rifle, that is both a backup for wind conditions and mechanical emergency. Coward that I am...I'll admit that I've shot the magnum at 500 and 600 yards a couple of times in the MR; of course, at all of the LR distances.

Don't ever fret that it's not manly to shoot a Win .284 at 300 yards. There are a good many among us that (ssssshhhhhhhh) regularly shoot the short magnum at that distance...and all the way to 1000.

Actually, I have a rifle for MR and 2 for LR. But my division is a little different. I shoot my .223 at 300 yards and I shoot the .308s at 600 and longer. The .223 is just a fun rifle at 300 and it does extremely well; no recoil whatsoever and just very accurate with 80gr bullets. I just can't bring myself to shoot the 180gr , 56 cents .308 bullets at 300 yards, even if I could bring the scope down to that distance.

600 yards gets a little iffy for a .223 when the wind blows, so I just go for the .308 and I have a single load for it, whether it's 600, 800, 900 or 1000 yards.

How does that work?

Well Bayou Shooter, I'll remember that and thanks for the english lesson. It was the Question marks in your post that prompted my response. However sense you already know all there is to know I will never take the time or make the effort to respond again to your posts.

Hombre0321, I think you are still lost and don't understand what is going on here, let me try to explain. BayouShooter said:

So BayouShooter said "How does that work? You unscrew a barrel..., and you are supposed to screw women is the part that he left out for us to fill in the blank. Get it?

For FT/R, hope my new 308 will fill the bill for 600-1000 and my 223 for some 600 and below. My 223 shoots real well in decent conditions. Dont know why, but I have wanted a 6BR variant for years, so a Dasher is hopefully my next rifle. Then for a "big" F open...?? 284, 7 WSM, 7 RSAUM..

Trigger time on my 308 this year is my focus while I collect my Dasher parts.
