F Class, 1 or 2 rifles?

The chances of setting a national record with a rifle are slim. When you do... build another rifle!! There is no limit to how many you can build, only how fat your wallet is. I have two with records and a backup. I NEEEEED another one! Rifles are not like women, you can own more than one. Never ask if you need one that is not a question worth answering. Besides, it helps keep gun builders busy.

I've been enjoying reading this thread, especially since I just got my new F-open gun from Randy Gregory. Interesting to see the different trains of thought regarding rifles, uses, and how many a feller should have. Me personally, I have two that can be used in F-open now and four that could be used in F-TR (although I don't plan on shooting that class at this time).

And yes, I'll post pics of the new boom stick in a thread all it's own as soon as I complete putting the finish on the new prototype stock Carl Bernosky was kind enough to build for me. Hopefully then someone will be able to help me find a case for this 54" monster!

I'd be interested to see what it looks like. BTW, my .300 WSM is 54.5" long. ;) [br]
ShootLong.com has a case that easily fits my .300. [br]

Joe, Don't mean to hijack this thread hope this information doesn't offend anyone. Finding a case for a 54" rifle can be difficult to say the least, I know I have three rifles this size. There are a couple of solutions though that I have personal experience with.

If you can find one ( I never did) a "Stinger" missile box works great when converted inside to hold your rifle. There is a company "Strong interprises" that make a Safari type case that is 57" inside dimension. I much prefer this type of case as it Carry's the rifle in the vertical and not laying on its side, there case is a two gun case but very easy to convert to a one rifle case. They also even make a lay down case that is 64" inside dimension. Here is a link, they are pricey but when I consider what the rifle cost its not bad at all. I have three of these and like them a lot.

Greg,
Yes I would, and have been comfortable flying with this case, and had no problems at all. It is a big case though, I mean any rifle case that has a dimension of 57" inside is going to be big. The fact that they are Two rifle cases is no problem at all once converted to one rifle. To do do this I simple removed the center divider and installed a single piece to hold the butt and another for the forend. I made these pretty tight so that the rifle does not move at all once in the case.

These being Safari type cases meaning the rifle is vertical makes a single rifle case standing up way to skinny not to be tippy. You actually need the added width of the two rifle case to make them sturdy.

The Impact case you linked to looks like a fine case and appears to be about 6 LBS lighter than mine. I really wanted the Safari type so the Impact simply would not work for me. If that is not a concern for you it may be a better way for You to go.

Thanks for the comments guys. I do like the safari cases. Also I found this one, thanks to a friend. Decisions, decisions...

And to those of you like me that have two or more guns, do you case them together or separate?

A case for each gun gives you a place to put parts that belong to that rifle where you can find them. I have a couple dual purpose cases with the spare parts of hunting type rifles. Special gun, special case.

I made my new stock with a thicker removable butt plate so I could remove it. This put me under 51".

I just picked up a Plano Bone Collector case that is made like a pelican. Really impressed with it so far. Very heavy made with wheels. Not like the usual Plano stuff.

Dicks had it for $149.
