For those interested in the sanitation side of Covid-19, I’ll share a portion that I posted on another forum. My experiences, my interpretation.
During this whole crazy, chaotic pandemic, I found myself tasked with making decisions, and choices of how to sanitize everyday work space and then home. I became very tired of all the nonsense in the media, and dove into the known structure of the virus. Science. I don’t want to make this too long of a message, but the structure of the virus is vulnerable, thankfully. I envision it like a microscopic tennis ball. Velcro like appendages on the outside, a shell, or envelope, and a center. That envelope or outer, protective layer is a lipid in this instance. A lipid is a fancy word for a fatty, waxy substance. Behind that is the 23 strand helix, a protein. So, how do we neutralize this thing? What dissolves, or emulsifies a lipid? Dissolving or permeating the lipid would damage the structure, and leave the protein helix vulnerable. It must be something that we humans can tolerate. Surfactants, and solvents. In simpler terms, soaps or detergents, and alcohols. I used everything possible. Isopropyl alcohol where you can, ethanol in others, a medical sanitizer called Mediclean (QUAT), and electrostatically applied Clorox product specifically designed for sanitizing regular office, workspace. Some of these things can be done at home too. We sprayed our boots, soles and all. Work clothes came off in the garage, and went directly in the wash. Ethanol From local distillers was easy to come by at the time, just be careful of the denaturing component. Stay away from methanol, it is not good to breathe the mist, nor on your skin. An ethanol, Mediclean dilution is what we used in pump spray bottles, in addition to the electrostatic Clorox applied by the cleaning company. Wear masks, and wash hands regularly. All this worked quite well. Had 6 cases prior to this sanitizing program, none for months now. Wear masks wash hands, stay away from sources as much as possible. Of course this is only to sanitize and to remediate the presence of the virus. Not for treatment once sick. But, preventing spread, and the contraction of the virus by others is very important as you know.
