Extractor letting go too soon

I have a PT&G Long action. The barrel is chambered in 300 PRC. After firing, the extractor grabs the cartridge just fine. As the bolt is withdrawn, the cartridge is released before it gets back far enough to eject. It is am M-16 style extractor. What is the cause and the fix? Thanks for your help.

Is the action a PTG or was a M16 installed on a original Remington Bolt. If it's a PTG bolt it should not have that problem. If it's a Remington bolt could be that the Smith didn't solder a ring and machined to where the old extractor was.

The problem is the bolt face/nose allows the case to kick out from under the extractor when the case clears the chamber and hits the side of the action under pressure from the ejector. Cause too much room under the extractor and/or to heavy a chamfer on the inside of the bolt nose reducing side support. Reducing the strength of the ejector spring helps sometimes. That's the easy fix if it works. Cut one coil at a time. You don't need as much force as you think you do. Next would be bushing the bolt nose to minimize the chamfer thus holding the case inside the nose until the case reaches the ejection port.

Thanks Gentlemen. Yes, it is a PT&G Elite model action. When the case clears the chamber and is pushed against the side of the receiver, that is when it is released as Mr. Tooley said.

Results; I removed the ejector pin and ground it down and angled it on the extractor side and the fired case now ejects. Thanks for all the help.
