extended throat life: 243 and 243 AI with DTAC bullets

Hello, as I understand it the DTAC 115 grain bullets in 243 and 243AI have wind advantages over the 6.5 x 284 and 142 grain Sierras. This being the case, I know these two 6mm cases have shorter throat life. I have heard and been told that using very slow powders and increased cleaning will extend these throats.

Does anybody have any concrete data to support this statement and exactly what powder and how precisely does the cleaning process have to be adapted so that the throats have a longer life? Actual data, as opposed to opinions, would be deeply appreciated in this matter.

Thank you,

Gene So

I believe you understand wrong. BC wins when wind is considered. The BC of the 142g SMK is greater than that of the 115g DTAC. Put the numbers in JBM, to get equal wind drift to the 142g SMK at 2950fps (usual speed of that bullet in the 6.5x284), you must push the 115g DTAC to 3175 fps to equal the wind drift of the 142g SMK. I believe that would be a tough task to push that bullet that fast in a .243/.243AI.

Just my thoughts.

If you have heard and been told this about these different cartridges you should ask them that made the statement. Ask them to back it up with actual data, or is this a hear say thing?
